Osceolas from Greeley Pond Jan 11

Nice short TR for a nice short(ish) hike. All in all it was a very pleasant day with both of you. Thanks for introducing me to the Common Man, too--my new favorite place! Great pictures, too, despite the lack of visibility. I didn't look tired in any of them!:D

    Winter Bushwack to Owls Head

Or do you mean the Black Pond bushwhack? In its simplest form that one is: Go to Black Pond. Follow a (roughly) zero degree (magnetic) heading to the stream. Bang a left and walk until the trail crosses the stream and joins you. When we did it a couple winters ago, the walk along the stream was...

Preferred way to Adams in Winter?

I like Lowe's up and Valley down when there are 2 cars involved (I don't like the road walk!). If I'm solo, I'll go up Airline and down Valley. Did that a couple Aprils ago and ran into a newly engaged couple at Madison Hut! ;)

8 Crazies and Mo (Not) from Colorado Climb Isolation, 1/3/2008

Well, just another fun New England winter day in the hills, huh?:D Sounds like you all had a wonderful time. Very nice TR, too, Larisa. Can't believe you decided to take photos on the summit in that breeze. See, Steve, there are occasional benefits from carrying a little weight!

    Zealand/Bonds Traverse, 12/29/2008

Excellent TR, Larisa, and an amazing hike by all of you. Having done that route in the fall without the road walk (but, in fact, with UFC), I can't even imagine doing it through snow drifts. Are you really sure that was Cath with you? The Cath I know would have gone totally, completely nuts at...

Hancocks to Ring It In, Jan 1, 2009

A fine TR, Mardi, although you give me too much credit. It was a great day out there, cold (or should I say "invigorating"?) but fun. (that is the "cool" smilie, after all.) I was colder on the way up than on the way down, and I didn't wait all that long for Mardi--she was pretty quick...

    Bears in Whites

Saw some nice, BIG bear tracks crossing the Middle Sister trail near Chocorua on Sunday 12/14. Not too high up, below the ice band, and clearly made after the ice storm. Pretty cool! Off Topic: It's pretty near impossible to locate the trail across the open ledgy areas of the Sisters. No cairns...

    Shoestring Gully up Webster

Wow, looks like you all had a beautiful day! With a crew like that, it's no surprise everyone had a good (and safe) time. Sounds like excellent mixed conditions. Way to go, you novices!

    Low-flying Jets over Maine

Don't know the genus and species of planes, but once on Pleasant Mountain (ME) we watched a couple jets fly by . . . BELOW us!

Marty, thanks for posting this TR and photos. I'm sure it was a bittersweet day for all of you.

    Hunting Season Willies

Good thing you're not in Maine, where it is illegal to "Use artificial lights between 1/2 hour after sunset and 1/2 hour before sunrise the next day to illuminate, jack, locate, attempt to locate or show up wild animals or wild birds from September 1st to December 15th of each calendar year."...

    Baxter this winter? Brothers/Fort/Coe

I'm only going if Skimom doesn't go--I'm tired of arguing with that woman!:D No, wait . . .

    Una_dogger finishes the 48, 67, and 115!

Fantastic finish, Sabrina! Congratulations! A spectacular and poetic #48. Maybe it was "poetic" justice that our "48" message wasn't there when you got to #47. :o We thought a lot about you on Saturday.

Whiteface, Bonds Traverse, and Hancocks via Arrow Slide 10/17 - 10/19

Bummer!:mad::mad: I guess our friend will just have to check out the photos. Yeah, I know, I'll get mine up when I have a minute. What a great day to be in a great place with great companions! Kim's right, though--the descent from Bondcliff to the Wilderness trail seemed like a...

Yeah, we had a great time! It was my first 20 miler, my previous record being about 17.5. A beautiful day to do it, too, and excellent company! As it turned out I got up late on Sunday (can't figure out why, after only 20 miles:eek:) and hit the road after brunch with Hui Yeng, Courtney and...

    Shelter Etiquette 101

I think a modified rule applies (or should apply) on the AT. If I'm in the shelter and it's getting filled up with through hikers, I'll gladly leave and pitch my tent to make room for more through hikers--especially if it's raining. I only have one more day in my weekend before I can get my...
