    Odd pets on trails

Maybe it's the start of Mega Fauna Read this article a few months back. Your elephant story reminded me of it. jen Mega Fauna Re-introduction

    Odd pets on trails

Not okay As someone who works and has worked for non profits, I have to say it's wrong that ANYONE would act that way! Why would you throw rocks at any animal? Jen

    deliverance moments

Montana Moments I was out for close to 2 weeks on the CD trail. Beautiful country I had never seen hiking like this before (or country like that either). 1) Coyotes are really really scary when you aren't familiar with where you are. It was a beautiful night. But those coyotes kept it up...

    Odd pets on trails

Ferret Trekking I read an article once about a kid who took his ferret hiking. I think it would be a long slow trek with my guys. Ohh something shiny, what's that, over there,

To hike or not to hike

I'm convinced Well, I'm convinced to keep my plans - with a few changes. Instead of the thru hike, we'll carpool and make a loop. Jen

To hike or not to hike

My husband and I are debating about cancelling our trip up to the Whites for next weekend. I was wondering if the rising price of gas has made others reconsider their hiking plans? Jen

    Garfield #48 - August 13th

Congrats Again I'm relatively new to the forum and was wondering how tight a community this was. It was great to see and hear (cuz you could be heard from about a mile below summit!) all of you there to support him on his final 48. I meant to ask you on Sat but was huffing and puffing...

right of way: uphill or down?

Yeilding I tend to yeild to everyone because I "need" a break. It did become difficult Saturday though. There were six of us trying to get out of the way of a single hiker. I thought back to the last time I was on the forum and have to say that it is easier for a smaller group to yield than...

    Cell phones and hiking

I'll agree with that. I remember the one time I forgot to turn off my phone while hiking Wachusett. It rang as I was crossing a stream. I was very confused for a second as to where the music was coming from (hadn't seen any fairies) And then I was just annoyed that someone's phone was...

Did anyone else donate at least 1/5 of their blood to black flies this weekend?

Buggers Evil little creatures. I am missing chunks of my skin. And I woke up at 3 AM sooooo itchy. Hope the bugs are gone by next weekend. Doubt it but really hoping.

    Some Advice on this weekend

Two weekends ago I lead a hike up in the Monadnock area with new hikers. We had rain all day and snow at the summit. I'm not sure some of those girls will go again. :o But it was a great learning experience for them. See you on Cabot this weekend.

    For All NH Border Crossers

It's a good thing our government has nothing better to do than to discuss whether to take the French language off of our signs. Oy Vey! I'm glad they decided to keep it though. Those signs are one of the reasons that I studied French for 8 years.

    Backpacking the Rocky Mountains

The mountains out there are beautiful! I've hiked out there several times with friends who used to live in Boulder. Definitely pick up a guide book. Since I don't know much about your hiking experience... I just want to warn you about altitude sickness. It definitely put a damper on a...

    Easiest/Hardest 4000 Footer?

Hardest: Washington---mentally remembering it to be something I did when I was a child. Then watching children pratically runnin up and down the trail. Oi! Attempted it once and was turned back by severe storms. Second time we hiked it, the temps were above 50 at the summit. Easiest...
