    Kibby Mountain, ME 5/23/2012 (Trail/Bushwack)

This is good news. I was last on Kibby in 2004 and wondered if the wind farmers had obliterated the top. Glad to hear they didn't. Back then a beautifully built, gradually ascending trail went up from the west, took a dogleg to the right near the top, as I remember. I commented that you...

Clear Pond Mt (near Lowelltown and Skinner :) ME

Another great adventure and another superb trip report, Jim. Everyone on this site aspiring to the Maine P300 thanks you for the invaluable information! Seriously, though, the accounts of your trips to the middle of nowhere are so entertaining you should compile them into a book.

    Little Bigelow

Sunday, 3/11/2012, A.M. The AT is well-packed & firm from the trailhead to the false summit where the southern views are. I wore microspikes and never postholed, although the moose did, about halfway along. I switched to snowshoes for the remainder of the hike, about a half mile of...

    Scott Cockrell died in December

I hiked with Scott but once when a bunch of us climbed Croyden, completing the New Hampshire County High Points list... small potatoes, indeed, compared to his finishing the 50 states high points list (only the 80th to do so), which he didn't even mention that day. Both in our 60s, we chatted...

Catskills - route 42 now open

On Valentine's Day, at about 10:30 a.m., NYS highway crews reopened route 42, having finished extensive road repair and bridge reconstruction in the Westkill-Lexington area. You can now drive from Lexington to Shandaken without detouring through Phoenicia.

Sonny M. completes the ADK 100 highest ...

Sorry I didn't get to talk with you at the Audrey & Pat extravaganza, Sonny. Here's your picture from 15 years ago, from a PEEKS article about the Adirondack Hundred Highest by Dennis Crispo: https://picasaweb.google.com/103073754178727970932/November92011 Congratulations on finally finishing...

    Bushwhacker News

Carl finished not only the "451" last weekend, but the Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine 200 highest at the same time. He must have writer's cramp from signing into so many jars and canisters! Speaking of which, the canisters you find on the trailless New Hampshire 3ks are Carl's creations...

    First photos from Duck Hole

Thanks for the hiking in and snapping the photos, Phil. Glad I had a chance to visit Duck Hole and take pictures of the dam and the impoundment a few years ago. As for the future, whether or not to rebuild the dam, I quote the Beatles: "Let it Be."

Good of you to harvest the litter. If that was So. Engine Hill, the flagging wasn't there for long.

New England Waterfalls on Channel 5's Chronicle on Monday, August 8th

After being bombarded by news of the stock market's demise on TV all day, it was "refreshing" to let this episode wash over me. Best Chronicle ever! Thanks for your persistence in getting this on the air, Greg. We waterfall aficionados are in debt to you. jt

Lake Placid SOA trail access lost

It did feel weird traipsing through lakefront lawns en route to the Two Brooks Trail. A new DEC trail avoiding driveways and boathouses would be welcome.

    Antler Hill (Beaudry, ME)

Thanks for the update, Jim. In 2008 the clarion call was "climb them now (the Kibbies, Spencer Bale, Peaked, etc.) before it's too late!" The wind project, it was feared, would close roads and thwart access to the various 3ks in the Kibby range. Evidently, we needn't have worried.
