    Exploring the Wild River Wilderness

That East Branch Trail is best left to the frogs and salamanders. You can avoid it by taking a dry, well-built old road that parallels it up the ridge a tad.

    Rainbow (ME)

3,000' of aggregate elevation gain for a climb of 1100'? Yikes, indeed! Another entertaining read, Jim.

Clark Brook Trail to Mt. Roosevelt 5/15

FR55 gate is now open. Drive right to the campsite. A half mile from the trailhead, the bridge over the creek is broken, with a "keep off" sign. One of the two main beams is splintered in the middle and most of the treadway planking is missing. Wading is difficult here as the creek is really...

    Biggest Nature Surprise

Schnebly Hill Road descending into Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona with the red rocks on fire beneath the setting sun. Didn't even need the hallucinogens.

Biggest D'oh "That Was Stupid" Moment

Lugging a giant pack up the trail toward JBL on a splendid October 1997 Saturday morning, destination Slant Rock and Haystack, and discovering, after two + miles, that my car keys weren't in my pocket. I hid the pack in the trees and raced back to the now filled-up Garden, finding my keys right...

Mt. Agamenticus, ME and Second Hill

Marty - As you may know, a few years ago NONE of the Agamenticus trails were marked. Your picture of the sign from the second hill/third hill area, "Trails unmarked beyond this point," brought back painful memories. On a drizzly May day I bought a new pair of Salomons from Kittery Trading Post...

Nice piece of writing, Bob, a very descriptive account of a nice trudge in less than nice weather. You were so close to the top of TR, though, that you should have bagged it....

Bay Circuit Trail - New Maps

Egregious error on my part. I was thinking of the Asbury Street Bridge, which I recently drove over. Sorry about that.

Bay Circuit Trail - New Maps

Thanks, Mike! Those are some nice maps. I did notice, however, that map 2 shows a "bridge out" over the Ipswich River. That bridge has been repaired and is now passable. I wonder how many, besides you, have completed the circuit....

    High Point in the Gunks

Which of the two 2289 bumps is considered the high point - the one a little north of Lake Maratanza or the one south of the Lake, not far from Sams Point, to the NNE?

    Marc finishes the W115!

I, too was a 2001 finisher and received my "spiral" booklet from Priscilla at the 2002 ceremony. After the all-season roster (417 at the time) there's a separate listing of 36 winter finishers. Extrapolating, there may be fifty or more by now. Only guessing.

VERY disappointed to see you wearing sleeves in those pictures, MBP. Your image has been shattered. Anyway, congratulations on an awesome accomplishment and getting that seldom-seen patch! jt
