There's one picture of you in gloves... but none with you wearing the Smittens. How come? Like the naughty kittens, did you lose your Smittens??!

Kevin - Sorry for the red square! It's the second time I've done that by mistake! I guess you can tell I haven't done much with VFTT for awhile, in fact very little since the "reputation" bit started. I'll throw a coupla greenies your way to atone. As far as the "friend request"... sure, but...

    NEng 3k Finishers

Kevin - Great 'whacking with you. And your pictures captured the drama of both the stunning views and the celebration! Glad you came along, but don't make it your last whack.... jt

    NEng 3k Finishers

Yes, the inimitable Marc Howes has completed the quest, summiting on Eagle Cliff, NH this afternoon (12-05-09), joined by thirteen others for the brief trail/bushwhack hike in near-perfect conditions (no snowshoes needed). Marc is the 33rd soul to complete the list of 451 New England 3ks...

    NY 2000 Highest?‏

Thanks for the heads-up, Roy. It's been a fun few hours pawing through my notebook for entries to post on the site. With those zero-ers and 1-ers on the lists, it'd be easy to inflate statistics in a hurry!

Pat and Audrey's Pot Luck November 7

On a scale of one-to-ten, Pat & Audrey's shindig came in at about a fifty. Nobody does it better than you too. Excellent food & libations, great turnout, old faces and new. Nice to finally meet a couple of legends, Richard Garland (Papa Bear) and whacker supreme Dennis Crispo. And Alan Via...

Picture trip report from Peak foliage time in the ADK

Tremendous way to finish! Great plan and exquisite timing on the foliage. I'm planning a finish on Dunn Brook in about 2025.... jt

Mt Will and N Summit of W Kennebago (ME)

Ah, the vagaries of early October weather! I've had similar autumn ordeals and felt as you did - what was I doing up there in the wet snow, solo, pushing my luck...? Finally finding the jar on the "real" West Kennebago under those conditions must have staved off your impending hypothermia. Glad...

Trail to Allen - Not that it really matters, but

Narrowing it down a little more - My log shows I hiked the reopened route to Allen on August 26, 2001. The "trail" through the cleaned-up devestation, prior to the herd path, was pretty much non-existent.

    Body parts in peak names?

The Uncanoonucs, two rounded mounds rising 700' above the terrain just west of Manchester, NH... Uncanoonuc, in the Native American vernacular, refers to "the upper portion of the female anatomy."

Moriah & Shelburne-Moriah from the Wild River Wilderness 8/16/09

I, too was out hiking in the heat Sunday, about twelve miles, half of it bushwhacking, bagging three 3ks in the Spotted Mt. range north of Rangeley. I took 3 1/2 liters of water along, and even that wasn't enough. Bugs were relentless. Wore a bug hat most of the time. Not a good hiking day...

#6, then Sandy Bay the same day in this crap weather??! You're a driven man, Jim!

    Spencer Road in norther Maine?

A bunch of us were up in the Beaudry over Memorial Day weekend, Richard. Some traveled the whole length of the Gold Brook-Spencer Roads between 27 & 201, but I can only speak for the stretch between Appleton Corner (where another logging road branches off toward Merrill and Van Dyke) and the...

    A Traumatic Grand Canyon Adventure

What a wonderful read, Bob. You must have spent many hours laying it all out and refining it. I would think an outdoor publication would love to publish your account of a very memorable trip. Congratulations on accomplishing an epic adventure! jt

Kevin's Notch area, seen yet again through your artful eye. You've staked a claim to your nearest faraway place. Nice work, you three!

    NEng 3k Finishers

Sunday, May 26, 2009 brought another New England 3k finisher into the fold. Al Bernier (Albee) finished the 3ks on South #6 Mountain, Maine (aka Crispo Peak) at about 4pm. Five of us took the rough firewarden's trail up to the tower on #5 peak, then pushed through the woods to # 6, and finally...

    Farrar 2524' (Kokadjo, ME)

What's Farrar's prominence, Jim? Instead of McD's, I enjoy hitting that little store in Kokadjo for my junk food rewards after whacks in that area. The place makes me feel like I'm in interior Alaska someplace.

    Saddleback 2590 (Wilton, ME)

Jim - Good to hear you're back at it. Gotta love the pursuit of the obscure list - picking the brains of the locals for best access and approach information. You come back from these trips with so much more than a peak bagged or a jar found. Your adventures are a hell of a lot more interesting...
