Sherpas are generally smaller in stature and hike very efficiently, using small steps going up and down. But I've seen them fly down the trail without their packs - usually just wearing flip-flops below the snow line.
I-93 pileup
59 vehicles involved in a pileup near Derry, NH this morning. Cars, buses and the UMass women's hockey team! No serious injuries. The traffic must be terrible.
6-7 inches here in Albany NY area. Good to go snowshoeing in the neighborhood woods:)
F.D.A. to Reconsider Plastic Bottle Risk
Back in the news. I didn't realize that BPA was also in the vast majority of the 22 billion cans used for food and 100 billion cans used for soft drinks and <gulp> beer!

It looks like this group made every error in the book! I haven't seen any follow up about the extent of his medical problems/frostbite.

I hope I don't see you on the trail with my dog Tucker. Sad to say, he likes to eat bunnies! If you see him - RUN!
Water sources
I've done the Great Range Traverse around the Summer solstice for a number of years, sometimes starting with Marcy and sometimes starting with LWJ. I don't know about later in the summer, but can vouch for water conditions at that time of year.

Man using GPS drives in front of train
Seriously - a friend has the Garmin Nuvi - not sure which model, but it is a great system. Pricey, though. Hers is top of the line.
Now that there is a foot to a foot-and-a-half of snow in the neighborhood, Tucker won't break trail for me. We are snowshoeing in the fields and paths on our regular walks and it is hard working doing it alone. For the most part Tucker (a rugged 40lb wheaten terrier) loves the cold and snow -...
Sorry, but totally incorrect. Adirondack Explorer has control over the copyright and is the only one that can permit posting of the article. Don't get Darren in trouble!.
Good article
It's nice to see that the reporter - Felicity Barringer - actually hiked to the top. There's a 7 minute video that goes along with the story - it's better than the article.
She talked to a lot of people on the trail that were positive about the requirement and a few that weren't.
