    Best Route to Hough

You're right about that, except for dogs The first time I climbed Dix, I took a friend's lab, Addie, to hike with me. I was pretty new to hiking and intended to hike only Dix. As we were heading off Dix, the path didn't seem right to me. After a few minutes descent, I realized we were on the...

    Cell Phone on Everest

First cell phone call from top of Everest I guess it was inevitable  So - you finally make it to the top of Everest, and there is some guy gabbing into a cell phone. You hope to make it safely off the mountain before this guy comes along: What's next? Unleashed dogs on the summit...

Check this out Arizona's 20/20 Challenge It's the work of my brother-in-law and others. The forty most challenging hikes - 20 peaks and 20 canyons, using various criteria. It has:

    48 Winter Record Attempt 3/10 - 3/18 (Updated title)

Hey Matt Where are you from in Sweden? My great great grandfather emigrated from Ulricehamn and my sister and I have traveled to Sweden to sightsee and hike. We spent a week on the Kungsleden and had a blast!

    48 Winter Record Attempt 3/10 - 3/18 (Updated title)

Good luck! Since you can't edit the title of this thread - maybe you should start another thread with the correct dates. This one is a little confusing with the dates and all. Have fun!

    Gothics and Armstrong - 2/24

Wonderful pictures and report I especially liked the B&W photo of the two hikers on Gothics ridge. Stunning! Your website is spectacular - I remember seeing your website when I viewed your Leonids/Noonmark report - where you met my friends, and later when you did the Great Range trip report...

    Iroquois to Marshall

As best as I can recall - last time I did the Tooth to Marshall, when we came to the trail - we headed towards Indian Pass for a few minutes before we came to the herd path for Marshall in June '04. From Don B's report that day:

I've done it both ways and found it the descent from Shepard's Tooth easier than the ascent - in summer.

    Peak Identification in the Daks?

Yes There is a little pocket guide (light brown cover) that gives you compass points of the 46 from every summit. I don't have mine handy, but I got it at the Mountaineer years ago.

    Avalanche danger in ADKs?

Generic DEC puts out this warning every winter. I think they must do it after big snow storms, as the information isn't specific to particular areas - i.e. it covers the entire Adirondacks.

Another aspect of being prepared for Winter

My tire rims are old and rusting. Once and a while they lose their seal - like last week. That's why I carry a bike pump around with me. It's saved me a couple of times.:D

Proposal to have NY section of VFTT?

Go ahead I do get a sense that NYers may have drifted away. I put a great deal of weight in what Peakbagr says, because of all the reasons he has put forward. Personally, I just hit the "New Posts" button and I rarely go to individual fora directly. But when I hit the new posts button - you...

    Solo

Tucker says - WOOF! I don't know if he means yes or no. As for your question - when you are solo - you are entirely dependent on yourself. But with a dog? Tucker is a pretty good route-finder and is more helpful than a lot of hikers I know (although I am a better map reader.) And he...
