    Grounded

Hmmm Chris, I was under the impression that one is supposed to leave the tent behind and bring only the fly and the footprint when one wanted to travel light...i must have gotten it wrong ! ;)

    Who stuffs their tent fly?

Stuffed If you look back in older posts, that has been debated on all seams not too long ago...I'm a stuffer, I'm a rambler, I'm the midnight gambler...

Another angle... I guess what I wanted to say was that a clueless ignorant fool is hard to single out only by the clothes he wears. Maybe that kid is from MIT. It had to be taken tongue in cheek, as I am no saint... But more importantly, taking another angle on the same subject, Guy Waterman...

Chill out dude ! The porters in Peru, Nepal, etc. wear flip flops with 60 pounds + loads. And in 1960, at the olympics, the marathon was won by a runner with bare feet. To each his own hike... any which way. Peace.

Peaks and Peaks in western Maine - July 10 - 17

Congrats on a great trip report Papa Bear. It is fun to see that my Boundary itinerary is gaining in popularity. It took me three times scouting the area before I was able to bag Boundary and White Cap on a solo jaunt to bag my 100th summit. Great memories. Pic here . Congrats to Arm too !

Camping ? Have you considered camping ? The Cathedral Pines in Eustis is one of my favorites. Try sites 67, 69 or 70.

    bear canisters

Lockers Out west, I've heard a few stories of bears "hiding" and waiting for someone to open the locker and out he comes at full speed : grrrr. The camper usually just runs away and the bear gets the food...In an open area, I kinda like the long smooth metallic poles equipped with hangers where...

    Vose Spur directions?

Compass There are some of us that bushwack taking the compass direction, not from the web, but from the map, after reading Gene's wonderful descriptions (it takes a while to get to love them). How silly of us ! Geez, we even have to add the magmetic declination. Glad I am trough with all...

    Bag for shipping pack?

Polythene Tom, in all my travels, I use a polythene bag with duct tape reinforcements. It works very well. Before returning, I buy another bag in a hardware store as the first is usually torn when I undo the duct tape reinforcements (they are just horizontal and verticle loops). Most airlines...

    Wrist-top computer

Vector I have been the happy owner of a Suunto Vector for 4 years now and have no complaints. I would buy that same model again cuz I also have an E-Trex GPS. If I didn't have any of the two, I would probably buy a GPS with a built in barometric altimeter. I only use the GPS for mountaineering...
