    Snowshoe comparisons and failure analysis

Because they have the heel lift. The 1025's and 830's from atlas that I have do not have that feature. I think it might be the greatest innovation since the advent of rubber (or plastic) bindings that don't freeze. I realize though that most gear has a useful lifespan, so I figure one hard...

    Snowshoe comparisons and failure analysis

I've owned 5 pair of snowshoes. Two from atlas, and three from msr. My Atlas830 and 1025 models have had normal wear, which I ended up buying a rivet gun for so that I could do it myself. I sent in the 830's for a redecking, and atlas did it for free. The msr's perform much better, but are much...

    Camp Peggy O. 2/24-2/27/08

I'll probably be done with my W by then, I'll just be hiking whatever comes up. But I'm thinking it's a great spot to bag haystack from and come back over Basin and Saddleback. I'd like to get some skiing in too.

    Machu Picchu information needed

I plan on going there later this year also. I have a thread started on it over on summitpost.com in the south america section. Some really good replies on how to do it on the cheap, and best ways to get around. Lots of info on flights to cuzco and trains from there, and which hotel to stay at...

    Feb 7th Or 8th

I remember getting Iroquois from Algonquin at the winter gathering a few years ago. The conditions were less than ideal, I hope you guys have a nice supportive crust to walk on...the sprucetraps through there are very deep and frequent.

    Seward Trailhead

The new winter parking area is a longer hike. I'm glad that I don't have to do that road walk now. It is about 1 mile before you get to the bridge, and is clearly marked as the winter parking area. I laughed as I drove right past it. I have no idea what the current road condition past the bridge...

    "Not Maintained in Winter"

I heard a vftt member got stuck coming out of the seward summer TH a few winters back, and it cost 800 large for a tow out. Could be urban legend...Maybe a few members could elaborate?

Winter hiking and removing ice balls on Labrador Paws???

I use ruffwear bark-n-boots. They are the greatest thing for my Golden. He loves when they get broken out, because he knows it means hike-time. I have used a few different companies before ruffwear, but they are the best in my book.--I do not work for the company, so this is not a business...

    MSR WhisperLite Tips?

My whisperlite failed one too many times in cold weather, and I switched over to a Primus himalaya varifuel. Similar setup, but works flawlessly everytime. My whisperlite has been hanging in the bag since that fateful november in the Seward range.

    Adirondack 100 Highest

There is a guy that lives in Nevada now that posts alot on summitpost. His handle is something like Moapeak, or something like that. He lived in Lake Placid in the 1970's, and has a wealth of knowledge about alot of the HH that I have mentioned. I asked him if he finished, and he said that he...

    A Lap Around Mount Rainier

That is incredible. I haven't heard about him in a very long time, amazing that you are out there trying to bust his records. You guys are a breed apart. I have to settle for my hiking, but I love reading that stuff, running around that mountain is crazy. Are you the guy that did the NPT run...

    A Lap Around Mount Rainier

Is that the same Stamstad that use to race in the iditabike in the 90's solo? If so, he is one heck of an endurance athlete. I think he used to do the leadville 100 every year also. At least the bike one, not sure if he did the foot race.
