Message for PIN PIN - TRAIL CONDITIONS - Please read

Postholers suck. The people writing foolish posts on here are probably trolls. They should go post on summit post. That is where most trolls end up anyway after they get booted from the boards everyone else enjoys. Pin Pin is a freakin' hiker legend. I am fortunate to say that I have met him. He...

    Back Country Slides?

I hiked Giant yesterday, and snow conditions in the high peaks is marginal at best. I doubt any slide paths are skiable right now. I know the woods are definitely not ready yet.

    Cave Dog Here

I just caught this thread so I missed the show. I will not miss the others. I'm still in awe over your 46er record. I love that you made it on espn.

    Kilburn Slide

It's on my to do list this winter. I know it gets skied alot, but I don't have any beta on the trip in. I think you park at monument falls, and there is a bit of an approach.

    Thoughts on the Sewards

Depending on what you will be carrying in your pack, I would go with the calkins brook exit. If your pack is going to be 40 pounds, I would leave it and do the traditional seward out and back. In day one and do seymour is a good idea. The out and back for S-D-E is a big day. Seward has beat me...

    Above treeline travel tricks?

I always bring a few extra shirts. I change into a dry one on the summit. I've actually thought I might lose my nipples a few times, but it's worth it to me to be dry on the way down. I always have a down coat in my pack, and something warm to drink. Embrace winter, it's the best time to get...

    Dog Boots

I tried two companies before I found a pair that were perfect. The third time was a charm with ruffwear bark-n-boots. They are the best. They have never come off, and now that my dog is used to them, he gets pretty stoked just seeing them.

Double trouble in the ADK Sentinels. 9-17

I can do it the 24th if you have no takers. I've wanted to hike these two for a while but am not free this weekend.

    Wright Slide 9-16

I would definitely be in for this one again(especially because I want an honorable mention in your project)--but it turns out that my bday is the 16th. I was going to go hiking on the 17th, but one of my friends is surprising me with something that I have never done before. I have no idea idea...

    Motelling it near Upper Works

My friends stayed at Aunt Pollys last winter a few times. They said it was a great place.

Trap Dike on Tuesday Sept. 6th

There are very obvious herd paths that will lead you out onto the slide. I'm going to work on being there. There is only a few real technical spots, I think the legend of this hike is alot worse than the reality. It's one of my favorite hikes.

    A Bushwhacker's View author.

There was a trip report on a few folks that climbed it two winters ago. They said it was very steep, and I think the snow was sloughing off as they ascended it. They just followed one of the streams that they crossed on the way in from upper works. Pick a day to climb it and I'll try my best to...

Wright Slide - got it wrong

I did it last fall. Hike from marcy dam towards avalanche pass until you come to the koegal lean-to. We crossed there and headed along remnants of an old tote road(at times). We ended up in some thick woods, and got to the point where we were not sure we would find it. We ended up right at the...

Looking for a fall Hiking partner

Hi there--I'm game for fall hiking. I'm in Oswego( I see you are in syracuse). I go up at least once a week. I've finished the 46, but am working the next round by different approaches--slide paths, or just other routes. Email me when you're ready to hike.

    8-9/10 in the Adirondacks

Anybody hiking(or looking to hike) these dates? My usual suspects are all busy with life, and I have a rare two day window to get out. I will do anything off the 100 highest list in the back of the guidebook. I'll do slide climbs, bushwacks, or just a plain old peak or three. I know it's short...

I wonder if DOGS enjoy hiking and peakbagging?

My golden retriever loves it. I just don't bring him to the high peaks of the Adirondacks because he is anti-leash. So he gets to enjoy other areas hiking. His most recent trip was Mt Adams, and he was pretty stoked.
