    eagle slide conditions.

It's on my to do list for this summer. I probably won't be on it for a few weeks. If I go before you, I'll post how it went. If you go first--please post a trip report. I've heard quite a few differing opinions about this route. The main theme is always bring rock shoes. I just did Green the...

    Elk Pass

Last time I was there, two spots had DEC camping discs marking the legal spots. There was one spot that was clearly camped at, but illegal. I was going to camp at that spot but decided to just hike out to my car.

    ADK: Bennies Brook Slide 07-02

Neil, I hope you have better luck than us at finding the base of the slide. We ended up finding it right above where the split is. It's a great climb. I'm taking my girlfriend up to the blue mountain area for the weekend. A little hiking, a little water safari(enchanted forest). See you on...

    Cell phones and hiking

I carry a cell phone. It doubles as my camera. I take alot of pictures with it. I have used it in a non emergency situation before. I agree that chatting away on the summit is a bit obnoxious, but so is hiking behind someone who has eaten tacos the night before your hike...I leave it off and in...

    Best boots for steep slides?

I also have the La sportiva exum ridge shoes. Very grippy on rock. I was going to use them this past sunday on the bennies brook slide, but it looked like rain and I left them in the car.

Trap Dike First Week of June

I climbed it without too much info on what to expect. I wanted it to be a sort of mini-adventure. Even with the water, there was only one really scary spot. It was due to the rock being so wet, and the feeling of exposure if I fell.

Trap Dike First Week of June

I did it when it was wet. Really wet. You end up climbing in the waterfall. Clinging to the wet rock can be a bit unnerving to say the least. The worst part for me was being out on the slide, which was also wet. The chances of slipping off and dying are very remote, but you feel the exposure the...

    Snowy in the DAX

There is quite a bit of free campsites at mason lake, down the road from snowy. You can drive down the dirt road, and pick a developed site. Fire rings at most of the sites, but the gate was closed as of two weeks ago. It should be open by now. Good access to the pillsbury mtn trailhead in there...

    GOthics via Pyramid

That was definitely one of my favorite hikes ever. The views from Pyramid are incredible. The hike up the ridge from the col to Gothics is great, looking at it from pyramid stoked me out. It was a great hike. I want to bring my girlfriend up that this summer.

Santanonis to Duck Hole and beyond

A few of us are doing that same trip sometime in august, from newcomb to coreys. Going up the ermine brook slide, summiting santanoni-panther-couchy, down couchy, across to the slide up emmons, then to donaldson-seward. The end of this month we are doing calkins brook up to donaldson-emmons...

    Pillsbury Mountain, Adirondacks firetower?

I was there this fall, and the firetower was fine. The access road near mason lake was still closed as of last saturday(4-30). Might want to drop the redional DEC office a call for the opening date. The last part of the drive was a little dicey, to the parking area. My subaru made it, as did a...

Skiing marcy or wright this weekend?

I skied Marcy last year at this time of year and it was worth the 4 hour trip from my house. I haven't been up there in a few weeks and I would like to know if anyone has any beta on snow conditions. I've heard about rain and thawing. Is the skiing still an option? I'm thinking about this sunday.

Saddleback/Basin - What is the best approach?

I did little haystack, then basin two weeks ago. The trail off of basin to saddleback was not broken out. As a matter of fact, it looked downright dangerous. Knee deep unconsolidated snow interspersed with sections of near vertical ice. We opted to go back down to catch the shorey shortcut. It...

Rules for camping at South Meadow (Adirondacks)

Looking for a good ADK slide to climb this weekend

Bennies looked to be in great shape two weeks ago. Nippletop looked full from the top of sawteeth the other day. The north face of gothics looked to be in really good shape.

    South Meadow Rd. - Adirondacks

That is the best beta on that area yet. I was hoping to get some skiing in this weekend, but can only get away for saturday, and I'm hiking sawteeth-gothics-armstrong. I'm hoping the snow holds out for quite a while.

    South Meadow Rd. - Adirondacks

Did you ski the pelkey basin? What were the conditions like? I have yet to ski that, but hear great things.

    South Meadow Rd. - Adirondacks

Were you parked right across from the gate? There is broken window glass right there. It's been there for quite awhile. I also noticed a stolen and broken open parking meter from points unkown at the first legal campsite when you turn on the road. I"ve left my car there for 4 days while...
