    Chimney Pond Baxter Trip 3/1-3/6

Sounds like a grand trip you guys had, makes for very fond memories. Doesn’t sound like a stroll in the park to Roaring Brook that day. Dealing with a 80 pound sled in unbroken snow, must have been pulling the sled even going downhill. Plus you must have had some weight being carried on your...

    Product Review: Kahtoola MICROspikes

I've used both and my vote also goes to the MS. As Tim noted, the Velcro attachments are a weak link over time. The only time I now use my Stabilicer is for shoveling out my driveway. Dave

    Monadnock 2/16 & 2/17

Too bad the ice melted off. Saturday was a blast playing on the ice. Had some good entertainment watching people in sneaker type of boots without traction trying to climb on the ice. It was like watching the TV show ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’. Steve, it was nice running into on the...

    Quabbin reservoir

Never been to the Quabbin. However, have taken hikes with my dog many times over at the Harvard Forest in Petersham. Very interesting place with great trails. Can learn about forestery and silviculture practice just walking the trails. dave

Sounds like a great trip you guys had. Yes, baxter is the place The new Cabin at chimmey has propan lanterns. According to the alpine ranger Roaring Brook Cabin will also get the same lanterns. Seems they rather supply lanterns then have people use candles. Perhaps all the cabins will be...

It’s Up To Me on Moosilauke -- 1/12/08

I have used microspikes. They are good for what they are; they reminded me kind of like insteps. They are not a substitute campons, just as stabilicers are not a substitute for campons.

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

Yes, I agree that there was no reference to data. What stuck me was the possibility that policies being made by governments might not have any real effect to halting climate change. I was also impressed by the list of list of signatories. So basically my question is: would preventing co...

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

Being a person with limited science background; It sure is difficult to interpret and read between the lines of comments and of published reports. I always try my best to view all opinions from all sides and digest all. I would be interested in opinions from people who are more...

Skiing the Dukes trail on Cardigan - 1/5/08

Skied out via the Duke. I meet the skier with the Dog on the top of Duke, cool dog with a red coat. Did one heck of a head drive at the bottom runout of the Duke. Had to dig snow out of my ears :o . Afterwards had to drive over to Hanover NH. Doesn't seem to be any easy way to get there from...

Skiing the Dukes trail on Cardigan - 1/5/08

Nice photo's Dave. I believe I ran into your group on the upper part of the Duke as I was heading you and your group skiing down. I was by myself in very like gear, BC XC skis and NNN bindings. I followed your tracks up the Whitney trail then up to the top of Duke. There was another skier...

Recommendations for snowshoe/backpack (1 nighter) near Burlington VT

I hiked by Montclair Glen Lodge last weekend. It's open. However, bring a shovel to clear out the door area. It's not lock, I think it's a first come setup. But give the GMC a call to verify. The long trail South from there was not broken out, lots of deep snow on the Camel. Saw a fair...
