Killington via Bucklin Sun. May 17

Decided to bring my son to Killington on his quest for the NE67. After considering VT reccommendations regarding mud season, and reading general trail conditions throughout NE, i felt confident that the bulk of mud season had well passed. Arrived at Bucklin for an approx 9:30 am start, only...

    vermont trail conditions

Hi All, considering Killington from west side this weekend, are there any mud season statements out in vermont? I know i've seen postings in the past years when the LT, Green Mtn Club, etc request limited trail use during mud season. Just wondering if anyone has been in the area lately. Also...

    Tucks spring season

Lots of great stories and advice, looks like the weather probably won't clear tomorrow and will pose a fog hazard. Great link cbcbd. Was planning on packing mats and even sleeping bags for extra cushion/warmth so planting on the snow won't be so bad, but unfortunately might have to wait for a...

Hi All, just wondering if anyone has any gut feelings on how and when tucks spring season might get into swing. I have possible time to hang out there early April then not again until late April. Promised my son a trip in to check out the crazies. I know it's still running colder than down...

    Starr King Trail?

I agree with the precautions on assuming an 'easy hike' for a 5 year old. If they have done relatively smaller hikes and hills prior to this one, you might be okay. I have hiked my kids for almost a decade now, they really didn't begin 4000ers until age 6 or 7, and only after they did 'tryout'...

    VT driving question

Am going from 89N out of lebanon, NH to Lincoln Gap Rd this weekend. In the past i have gone to Waterbury exit and headed south on 100 (but was car spotting also at Appalachia Gap). Mapquest wants to send me via exit 5 to 64, then 12A over Warren Mtn/Roxbury Mtn rd into East Warren then to...

Rescue crews carry out injured hiker

I'm glad to hear all ended well...i took a WFA course in August and it is quite enlightening as to the amount of time required for a rescue, both getting in and carrying out. Coming out they say plan on an hour per .5 miles for a full carry, and as demonstrated by this rescue 3-4 hours to...

What's the best route to Mt. Isolation?

Mountain 49, i did this with my son(12..read...short legs) in late august after what was 5 or 6 weeks of incredibly wet weather. I wore scree gaiters, he wore my snowgaiters...much higher and waterproof. Definitely bring a couple extra pair of socks, both for water as well as for a long day...
