I gotta ask...how old are your knee's??!!! Also, you could make a killing marketing your "training" routine and diet!!! It's probably going to take me 5 seperate weeklong trips to get those babies!

    Short Stride finishes his NH48!!!

Short stride is my son, 12 year old Nate. It has taken about a week to figure out how to attach photo's, so hopefully this attempt will be successful. Bondcliff: 8/29/08 Was forecast to be a beautiful day. We started early and mentally treated the hike like it didn't start until the...

Cutting Mt. Davis Down to Size (21-Aug-2008)

NICE!! Now if we can only cut Isolation down to a four hour trip, my son gazed ohh so longing at it as we trudged endlessly around it the day after you did this one...that trail report is coming! ctsparrow

Wildcat D via ski trails 8/21/08

This was number 45..NH48.. for my son..age 12. Our original plan was to ascend the challenging Wildcat Ridge Trail, but rain overnight that lasted until approx 10am, thwarted that idea. Fortunately, it is the last rain in the area for this whole week. We made these last minute plans based on...

Salvage Operation on the Willey Range, 8/17/2008

BIGEarl, Trail trotter, you all are NUTS!!! Great time management when pushed to a plan B, i know i couldn't do that kind of day. Taking my son up those Wiley ladders i noted in my head how much i would NOT like to descend via them, never mind at the end of an extreme hiking day such as...

    Wildcat D via ski trails

Date: 8/21/2008 Trail Conditions: Polecat trails recently mowed, very easy to follow, beautiful views, signs of moose etc. Observation tower is closed due to crumbling conditions although fresh lumbar was laying about, unsure if for rebuilding or additional barricades. Special equipment...

    Isolation via Rocky Branch/Isolation/Davis

Date: 8/22/08 Trail Conditions: DOABLE!!! Not as muddy as expected, rock steps, bog logs etc in most all the right places. First two water crossings require some submerged rock steps, approx. boot height, third and fourth easily avoided on bushwack. Fifth, piece of cake. Some overgrown...

    Any recent Isolation feedback

Thanks DougPaul, i have considered the Glen Boulder Route as many have traveled this way, but fear i won't have the oompf to get back up it! Guess i'm going to water/mud proof as much as possible....and bring extra high gaiters!! Open invitation to anyone who wants to be mud buddies...starting...

    Any recent Isolation feedback

OK, i know about all the rain, and this may be a redundant question, but am taking my son into Isolation the Rocky Branch, Isolation, Davis way...i'm expecting it to ...pardon the language..suck...but how much mud sucking is realistic to expect? It has been probably eight years since i did this...

Mendon Peak VT - bushwhack to avoid stream crossings

My first attempt to Mendon (twarted by my sons asthma) was in a November so the first brook crossing required steps on icy rocks, we made it but not in a fun way, after the second brook crossing i realized i needed to turn him around. As we were sitting on a log for lunch a very loud ATV came...

Great info all....I'm going to punt it to the weather now...either wet pants and boots from the ski area or wet ledges on the WRT, we'll see what mother nature dictates. thanks..ctsparrow

    Wildcat ski area...hikeable?

As mentioned in my Camp Dodge question, am spending acouple days in the wildcat/carter area. Just in case WRT is wet from semi-predicted showers...has anyone recently been around Wildcat Ski area or have hiked it recently? Is it a feasible alternative to the AT with it's steep sections...

    Camp Dodge whack?

Doin a couple days with my son and weather dependent we may go in or out from Imp, is there a obvious whack site to shorten our Imp walk or is this an occasional-only route used? Time wise is it even worth it?...he hates whacks after Black Pond and Franconia Falls recently and will have weekend...

    Owl's Head and 'Whack - 'Whack - 'Whack, 5/24/2008

Congrats on your success. I did the exact same hike with my son on Sunday, but could not safely cross Liberty and Lincoln near the slide. Even though the ranger gave the impression that it was doable with high gaiters, he did warn of swiftness. As you mentioned, you felt the level may have...

    Owls Head best guesses

Thanks Una Dogger and Paradox, I'm debating beating the bugs and helping my son get this one now, or going up to Waumbek and attempting to get over to South Weeks as well. Not sure how the snow if any will be off the back side of Waumbek. ctsparrow
