Stratton Mtn (VT) - southern approach - access to the LT?

Kelly Stand Rd will be dirt, I took it in from the Arlington side, just over the hill from Mt Snows entrance driveways, but the AT/LT area is an obvious open parking lot type area as mentioned, it is a gathering place during snowmobiling season...look for a porta potty that the snowmobilers...

Yes, fall hiking has ended pretty much on the summits. i happened to check weather radar last friday pm when we were being hammered by heavy downpours and winds in the CT river valley, and noticed the swirling pink and blue swatches esp over the upper green mtns. Time to switch packs and start...

    South Sister, Oregon: 10,357ft.

Hey Jessbee.....i lived in Portland from '78 to '82, unfortunately i was too busy partying and getting 'happy' and hanging out in the rose garden and wasn't into hiking. Although i did ski my butt off on Mt Hood many winters. I loved the west and Portland as well as most of Oregon(that's...

Sandwich Dome by Algonquin and Drake's Brook trails

Did Sandwich and Jennings this past March...and loved them both. Have always considered the Algonquin for an approach, but obviously winter ruled that out. Loved reading the description. I would recommend Jennings to anyone who feels so inclined, particularly with kids if not going on to...

    Amherst/Northampton Area Info

Welcome to the area..I'm over the CT border in Enfield...I really love the notch area for keeping in shape for winter outings. You can chose any combo of flats/ups/downs. The 'seven sisters' get in more vertical than you might think doing an over and back or even partial sections. Mt...

Tripyramids and a Test of Physical Fittness and Mental Well Being

My official peak bagging trip on the Tri's was in 1999. I did the same route minus the whack near the top...back then I memorized trail book descriptions!! This past Monday (before the 4th) i took my son in via the south branch..i had this idea that he could get Middle Tri, then we would...

    Boundary Peak and re-entering US

I have recently been researching Boundary Peak on the Maine/Canada border...i was totally loving Bob & Geri's pics. I shared the image of this peak with my son, who is a hockey and thus..in a 10yr olds logic..a Canada fan. Recently, i was around people with Canadian relatives and they were...

    Montana info

A more specific question on bear spray...i advised him to buy it out there as it probably is frowned upon on the airlines. He wondered if he could pack it in his luggage. I know this stuff is pressurized...can it be stowed safely? thanks, ctsparrow

We had originally planned this in May, you know, on that weekend southern NH flooded!! Well, this day(6/2) was my birthday, and i warned her of my bad luck...

    Wiley/Field (the easy way!) 5/29

Out with my son again, the goal was Wiley,Field & Tom, but we ended up saving Tom for another day. I had heard about WRT and it's steepness from the Ethan Pond side, but was suitably impressed none-the-less. After a day of rest after our East Osceola trip, we headed up EP trl, thanking the AMC...

East Osceola (the easy way!) 5/27

My son needed East Osceola, so we set out to approach it from the Kanc side via Greeley and East Osceola Trl. It has been 13 yrs since i stumbled upon this trail and was treated to it's steepness and roughness. My son is ten but the size of an 8 yr old. Greeley was very tame..we were going to...
