Who are the legends of the New England mountains?

IIRC, their dog lived, so he must be the one who made it all possible in the memory of his family.

    Better Than Duct Tape?

I use duct tape on my feet and it has never failed me. Mind you, this was mostly for preventive measures, but I did cover old wounds with it as well. It worked well in both capacities. Never slipped so long as you give the gummy adhesive time to set prior to your foot sweating and sliding in a...

Field repairing an XGK vs Whisperlite?

I have an 80's model xgk and it never has broken. but then again, neither has my whisperlite, which I've had since 7th grade. I don't know how the newfangled xgk's measure up. They certainly have been changed more over the years than the whisperlites. Bottom line: Either way, your pump is...

    Jay X 2 = 100 (9/15/07)

Congrats, Mike! I was disappointed that we would miss you at the beginning of the hike, but the gods of chance smiled again. Nice to see you and Steve again and to meet Poison Ivy as well. You picked quite a day. It took me 3 hours to warm up/dry off from our hike. Now...what next?

Total Red Lunar Eclipse Late Tonight

This event should be much much better from the west coast, but it still will be viewable in the east. Set your alarm clocks for EARLY. http://www.mercurynews.com/valley/ci_6729353

    Upper Valley Beer Night interest?

Great meeting folks last night. We had a wonderful little trek up Gile and were rewarded with an INCREDIBLE sunset. Very pleasant after it had been threatening rain for a bit. Chatted for a bit, had a few, then parted ways. I now have two favorite lurkers. Good to meet you, Greg and Chip...

Bomber crash site on Fort Mt.

No worries! This is the best attitude to have. Give yourself enough time and a mindset allowing a few scrapes and scratches and you'll be fine. It's a neat spot. The scouts will love it. The ridge will basically feed you into the herd path if you travel e(se). Just go with the flow. And have fun!
