Long Island and Westchester/ Rockland Hikes?

There's also good hiking to be had at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Pound Ridge, Westchester Co. that may be a shorter trip for you.

How do you store your gear?

I'm lucky enough to have a gear room where most of the gear lives, except for what's on the couch and living room floor waiting for the weekend. Bigger items like the mountain bike and kayak are stored at the folks house. No room for the boat at the condo. Small price to pay for not having...

Indian Head Loop + Twin 11/2

I did the loop over Indian Head on Sunday from Prediger Road. There was still a couple of inches of snow on the ground at the trailhead and patches of snow and ice throughout the trip but no need for any traction control/snowshoes. Took the Jimmy Dolan Notch trail up to Devil's Path then...

Looking for hiking partner Sunday 11/2 in Catskills

I may be headed up that way as well if I don't get talked into a hike in northwest Jersey instead. Will you already be up that way or leaving from home? I was thinking about Indian Head and potentially other peaks. also looks like we could potentially meet in Fishkill and carpool from there?

Pharoah Lake is nice too- I don't have my map with me and don't remember off hand how long the hike in is.

Lazy Summer Day on the Basha Kill

thanks for the book info. This weekend I took a trip to the Farmington River in Connecticut- I did the section at Satan's Kingdom, as some friends were tubing there. There are a lot of put-in's along the river and with a 2 car shuttle, you can make a nice day trip out of it...

Lazy Summer Day on the Basha Kill

I paddled the Wallkill from New Paltz a few weeks ago. We put in at the launch south of 299 and paddled upstream (south) for a while, past a really shallow section (where we had to get out and walk) until we got to the next shallow/rocky section where we turned around and headed back. It was a...

    Coolest Place You've Ever Slept?

top of Half Dome, Yosemite NP after an all day climb up Snake Dyke. While this is illegal now, I think it was legal then (1993) and it was safer to stay on top then to decent the cableway in our state of exhaustion.

Best After Hike Meals in High Peaks

My BIASED opinion is for my friend's place, Anywhere's, in Chestertown. Good food and good beers. It's easy to get to after approaching/leaving the Peaks from the south.
