All right! Sounds like we got the ball rolling. Chomp-new blood, kinda. Happy to here you can make it. I hope it wasn't your wedding that you don't have to go to now; was it. Bob, bringing Jane along, right? We can have a little birthday bash. What kind of cake and ice cream does she...

5th Annual Adirondack BBQ and Hiker Gathering

5th Annual Adirondack BBQ and Hiker Gathering August 9-12th, 2007 Thursday and Friday; people start showing up as usual, get tents set up. Shoot the $hit for a while, have a bonfire, drink some beer, either order in pizza and wings or go out to eat those two nights. Many people plan hikes for...

    Camelback Mountain-Phoenix AZ

We have to pass on the SUperstitions this time around. I heard alot of really cool things about that range. I'm going back in June maybe then. But I'm really eyeing Mount Lemmon and Rincon Peak.

    Final hurrah-Piestewa Peak, Phoenix AZ

This peak is the second most popular hike in Arizona. So I had to check it out for myself. It’s a simple 1.2 mile hike to the top and located right in the middle of Phoenix in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. The trail is called the summit trail and starts off on a cement pad that is broken up...

    Arizona Trail

Our plan was to climb Picketpost Mountain, but things don’t always go as planned. We found the trailhead with no issues after an hour and a half delay in traffic. The LPGA Tournament at Superstition Mountain was going on as well as the renaissance festival. Once at the trailhead the start was...

    Camelback Mountain-Phoenix AZ

Well today Maddi is in her first day of the business meeting so I’m a bachelor for a few hours and looked in the guide book for a short climb in the Scottsdale area. I found Camelback Mountain tucked snug in the middle of town-literally. There are two routes up this peak I chose the less...

    Mount Wrightson, Santa Rita AZ

I’ve been eyeing these peaks here in AZ for quite some time and now it’s time to get up high. SO looking through a local trail guide I decided to take on Mount Wrightson at 9500 feet. It was a long drive to the trailhead south of Tucson but well worth the trip. The scenery alone from the...

    North River and Rist

This is a long overdue TR that I promised to do. So I hope it was worth the wait. It was an excellent weekend staying in a warm-no wait sweltering cabin located on the East River Club. We are quite fortunate to know a very generous member of the club that opened up a weekend for us at the main...

    Wasson and Amole peaks-Tuscon AZ

It's day two for us here in Arizona and we decided to do a little afternoon hike. We spent the morning at the Sonora Desert Museum looking at all kinds of animals and plant life-even had a pretty darn good lunch there. Accross the road are some really cool looking mountains so we decided to...

    3/10 Skylight and Gray

How was the herd path over to Marcy? We had kicked the idea around a little, but decided to leave our packs at Lake Tear. Was it spruce tap heaven?

Can VFTT save a Firetower ?

I'm all for it, I'll pitch in. The two towers in the worst stape I noticed are Hurricane and Saint Regis. My first choice would be Hurricane, second Wakley. Wakley isn't in bad shape. All of stairs are still there, the landings are a little shaky and the cab is in good shape, no windows of course.

    3/10 Skylight and Gray

It was one of those mornings where I lay in bed after the alarm goes off and I say to myself I really don’t want to get up. We had set plans about a week earlier to go in and get Skylight and Grey, knowing they had been broken out. Knowing in our mind the conditions would be good we decided on a...
