    Reddington Questions

So, I'm heading up to Maine for a week with Corenne and we want to get the 11 4000 footers outside of Baxter. I got all taken care of except the best approach to Reddington. I seem to remember taking a herd path from South Crocker, is that the best approach since I will be up there anyhow? Then...

Just a little poll to get an idea of where everyone would like to have the next gathering. The campground has been great to us the last couple years, and the price is right, but it's a little away from the peaks. Just thinking ahea for next year so I can do a little research on availablity...

    moose mountain summit, well almost

It is very tricky there at Loch Bonnie. You need to cross the bog at that point. The trail is on the other side of the narrow arm of the bog on the right. If you can not cross you need to go around it in the woods. On the other side it is very easy to see and follow and is well marked. Te...

    Yellow Yellow the bear

When it comes to camping in the high peaks area, I think there is a huge bell curve. I hear some of the craziest stuff at EMS. The latest was "is there a place to eat on the way up Marcy?", I can't even make this crap up.

8th annual ADK BBQ and Gathering

The ferry should be good to go from Essex/Charlotte or up north to Champlain. There is a ferry at the bridge to transport those wanting to use the bridge. I am unaware of any issues with the ferry. I have no plans for hikes as of yet. But I will get the two kiddie pools ready for beverages. I...

    Cascade via the Cascade

Exactly, it's pretty straight forward. We wanted to stay in the stream but it wasn't frozen enough. If the ice is solid it would be even easier. Do not try the right side of the waterfall as a warning, it's too steep and dangerous for summer much less winter.

    Cascade via the Cascade

I just did it a few weeks ago. It's a bear!!! Here's my report. Cascade is now broken out! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What you thought I meant the trail? Heck no. Corenne and I decided to put the skis aside and get her, her first winter...

    Purple boxes in trees

Yes the DEC is monitoring the movement of these invasive beetles. They are an emerald color and have yet to make there way in the ADKS but they are right on the outskirts. This is one of the reasons they have the new law of "Burn it Where You Buy it" on firewood. They are suppose to be hung on...

    MacNaughton

Mirabela has a great point. Winter is a great opion and you can take the drainage from near Wallface Lean-to and go over South MacNaughton. It's a nearly open bushwhack up to a iller view from South MacNaughton

    Entire Dix Range In Winter

It can be done in a day without camping, if you are preparred for the long day. Broken out it took a group of us 12 hours to get them all. Round Pond and down to Bouquet River. If you decide to camp, stay near Slide Brook and go for Macomb first. If the herd path is untouched, the traverse of...

Baxter: Chimney Route, Knife Edge, Baxter, Hamlin Ridge

OOOPS! Guess that's what happens when you are out of the loop for so long. Thanks Tom but September will be tough with school and all. I was looking for a winter trip up the Chimney over the Knife Edge and down the Saddle.
