6th annual Adirondack Gathering and BBQ August 7-10

Well it's that time of year again to start thinking about another get together. As promised it's going to be the second weekend in August. I know it's a few months early to be posting this, well maybe, but maybe this time no excuses. Here's a little run down. Thursday The party starts slow...

Allen for my W46 on March 9th

This should be a great winter 46er gathering this year. Lots of members have finished this year. Could be a record number of winter finishers. Christine, Marta-- What's the highest number of winter finishers in one season, any idea? Last year is a record number of all season finishers.

Allen for my W46 on March 9th

The butt slide was sweet, yes fast, but I just leaned back on my pack it slowed me enough, didn't even have to break it up into two sections. All I can say is, the slide was the most interesting part of the hike, and considering it's only a couple hundred feet long, just doesn't add up to a...

Allen for my W46 on March 9th

Yes, but there's a trail now. ;) It takes around 1.5 hours to get to Upper Works. Hope to see you there. If not at least for dinner one night.

Allen for my W46 on March 9th

I'm still looking into investing in skis. Looking at the Karhu guide series. I tried them out the other day with Silvretta Bindings. The binding work with my plastic boots and they kick real nice.

    MacNaughton-lets plan a group trip

Final Update The plan is to meet at the Upper Works Trailhead at 6am on Sunday. The route will be from Wallface Lean-to via a drainag (not the Wallface Pond Drainage). This route will bring us up toward South MacNaughton along the ridge and over to the true summit. Around 5 miles from car to...

    MacNaughton-lets plan a group trip

It's about a 13 miles RT from that side, about 12miles RT from the MacNaughton Brook Side and only about 9 miles RT from the South. All of which are going to be a long day hike for winter, especially if routes are unbroken. The Southern Approach is from the Indian Pass Trail via a drainage run...

    MacNaughton-lets plan a group trip

I wouldn't try it. It looks great on a map but the ridge on that side of Wallface was leveled. The dead fall would be unforgiving, and the traps from the fallen trees, would be dangerous. You would have to drop back down to Wallface Ponds and follow the drainage down to near the Vly then cut...

    MacNaughton-lets plan a group trip

Sounds good. I think two groups might be in order for this trip. So, everybody line up against the wall and we'll pick teams. Who wants Alistair?? :D

Allen or Dix and Hough this thursday

I know, I know, I know-this really sucks. But Cascade and Porter does me no good. I was also thinking Seymour, as the road should be clear. I also need Colvin and Blake. I could canoe over the Upper Lake :D

Allen or Dix and Hough this thursday

Looking for someone to join me on this little quest to get another W peak or two or four. I would even consider going over to South and East Dix for a traverse if someone wanted in to spot a car. I would start hiking around 6am, no later, for either hike. Anyone off work on thursday or want...

    MacNaughton-lets plan a group trip

Neil- The original plan was upper works to hunter pond. This route has a chance of being traveled by then. The other approach would be from wallface ponds from the loj. We can talk about it more as we get closer. Maybe monitor the boards to see which route would be better.

    MacNaughton-lets plan a group trip

Route 1-We may need to do that Neil. There's always the option of a climb via Wallface Ponds. The trail to Scott Clearing should be broken but from there it may need to be. The plus there is, the ponds will be frozen. Route 2-There is also a route brian and I did up a drainage near Wallface...
