I would agree the second BW was very, very fun when I did it a few years (I guess five by now) ago. It doesn't save too much in terms of milage, but it was definitely the most exciting part of doing Isolation in winter. I would not classify the navigation skills needed as more than basic, as all...
1- I think 7 Dwarfs looked closed for the season last weekend. In any event, just keep driving past it and park at the end of the road, minding not to block access to the bridge. I had no problem last Saturday, must have been 8 cars there in total.
2- The herd path is all I have ever taken...
I would definitely buy in if there was not a negligence clause. As others have stated, that wording essentially makes the card basically worthless, esp for solo hikers. On a related side note, if I am any indication, then hikers do not contribute very much of the $4 billion in traveler spending...
In my opinion, the biggest advantage to the Loon approach is using their bridge to avoid the water. I did this trip "twice" last winter, the first time we used the far lefthand skiing trail for uphill travel only for about a half-mile or so, then veered into the woods and bushwhacked up to Black...
I am trying to think up as many bc skiing spots as possible in the white mountain area based on the criteria below, and I only have a few ideas. As a side note, Mittersill WOULD have been on the list, but now that it's a restricted area, we can cross that off the list. Thank you so very much...
Lethe really is an amazing little peak! I have always been surprised at how slow the going is to reach it from the trail. The view is, in my opinion, truly fantastic. I also remember doing a ton of reading on views before and afterwards to determine if I made the "real" summit. Even after going...
My feeling is take quality over quantity. Why force yourself to do more peaks (often on cruddy days) just because "everybody" else is? I would rather applaud those who take LONGER to finish the lists, savoring every step and waiting for the perfect days to go - than those who rush around acting...
My opinion on the Mittersill area is that it has been to-date mismanaged by Cannon and we were better off when it was abandoned ... before they got their greedy little paws on it. I have read most but not all of the posts in this thread so please accept my apology if I have missed something that...

Potash a few winters back was absolutely amazing views for the effort. Zeacliff is a little bit on the longer side but wicked nice and not by any means a big trip.
I second the above, Garf really was quite easy when I did it, except for the overall miles traveled.. but for that distance it wasn't that bad. Views in winter are beyond amazing!
Finish 52 with a view
Finish Alpine 100
Do several bushwhacks - locations TBD
Do more hike up ski down trips
Ski Tux finally (most likely not over the headwall though...)
Explore abandoned trails
Do the Wapack trail run, hoping for 7 hours or less
Run a marathon
Somehow get used to hiking...
I have heard rumors that the cog rr is NOT running this winter, which leads me to think that Base Road would in turn NOT be plowed. I believe that not until recently was this road ever plowed. Does anybody have concrete information on the status of Base Road this winter?
The above mentioned route is fantastic! A possible addition is to tack on Hale via FW for a longer but even more rewarding day - one of my favorite trips from last year!
