    Seymour and Seward

On Dec. 19th, Apache and me headed for Seymour from the summer parking lot. The skies were blue, the sun out, and little wind. I would guess the temperature was in the high teens to low 20's. The trail in was thin but covered with enough snow. We decided to wear our snowshoes but you could...

    5 monsters by the tail....

Trip report It's always a pleasure to read Pin Pin Jr.'s trip reports. I'm afraid I can not follow in his foot steps. If only I were a rabbit or may be a randon scooter than I would track you down, you silly rabbit. Happy trails.....

    Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback

Winter can be a magical time to hike. This trip definitely had all the elements of a magic show. The trail was deep with untouched snow, the trees hung low from its weight, and the tracks of the snowshoe rabbit were everywhere. At one point we observed the tracks of a lone bobcat in the snow...

    Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback

The trail to Haystack was broken to Slant Rock. We made great time to the junction with the Range trail. It is hard to describe the views we had from both Little Haystack and Haystack, just spectacular. Marcy, Skylight, and the Great Range were within hands reach the sky was so clear. We...

    Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback

Spence, Brian, Mimi, Nancy, Jeff, Andy, Ron, and Steve could not have picked a better day to climb Haystack. We used crampons as both Little Haystack and Haystack are covered with ice and snow. There is bare rock on the back of Little Haystack. Test report

    Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback

I tried to post a longer report but for some reasons was unable. Anyway, the trail is now open between Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback. If you should go this way, snowshoes, poles, and may be an ice axe are helpful. As of Saturday, Dec. 5th, Shorey Short Cut was not broken, so if you decide...

    Basin and Saddleback: winter

The trip this weekend Hello everyone: It might be difficult for some of us to reach the Garden by car. Depending on your plans, should we think about sharing a ride into the parking lot for those whose cars can not make it? I might be one of those people. I guess one could hike in...

    Seward, etc, via Caulkins

Seward, Donaldson and Emmons On Saturday, the 29th, Richard, Gordon, and myself, headed for the Seward range. Richard needed Seward, Gordon and myself, needed all three. We had a late start, plan, meet Richard on Corey Road at 6 am. My Corolla with all season tires could not make to grade...

    Seward, etc, via Caulkins

Adventure I was one of the lucky people, I turned around, was out by 4:30, and at Pitkin's in Schroon Lake around 5:30 pm, eating a warm meal. Hoepfully the weather does not become a major factor in this trip. If conditions deteriorate I will definitely turn around. :D

    Seward, etc, via Caulkins

Headed for Caulkins Brook, Seward, Donaldson, and Emmons. We will go in around 6am. If you love to break trail and the smell of pine, join us. At this point there are three in our party. I heard two others may attempt. Hopefully the weather holds. Bring a raincoat just in case. :)

    MacNaughton-lets plan a group trip

MacNaughton If all goes well this winter I might join you on this adventure. Place a question mark next to my name. If I only have a peak or two to finish my basic winter 46, than I will chose finishing. So it depends on where I am on the list.

    Basin and Saddleback: winter

food, toad stools, and grasshoppers Sounds like we can plan on eating together on Friday at least, for those who want to participate. If someone will summarize a list for Friday's dinner the other people who would like to participate can chime in. So far someone will try to bring homemade...

    Basin and Saddleback: winter

Food We are talking about two dinners probably. Unless someone wants to organize the menu, it will probably be easier to bring what you like for yourself. It is my understanding, check-in is 12 noon, and pots, dishes, etc. are available at the cabin. Brian will need to get the combination to...
