When the heck is Bearly Live 2009?

NOOOOO!!!! My girlfriend and I were gonna come. I don't think I've missed one of these before. Sadly, I have other plans that weekend that I can't get out of. :(

    Spring Fling

It was a little weird being sober at one of these types of gatherings. Guess that's what I get for showing up late. My girlfriend and I both had an awesome time. We both really enjoyed the music and had a lot of laughs. Thanks McRat and Marc!! :D Oh, also thanks to those who helped get my car...

    Spring Fling (Gathering) - Melting Snow 101 - 3.20.09-3.22.09

I'll be picking up Chomp's slack and adding my own special blend of mayhem to the mix. I might bring my bass with me, but we'll see. I'm bringing my girlfriend along too, so I expect you all to be on your worst behavior so I look good!! :D

Franconia Ridge or The Hike That Was Almost My Last -- 1/31/09

Only to happy to oblige. Happy birthday, man!

Franconia Ridge or The Hike That Was Almost My Last -- 1/31/09

Quite right! I polished off a couple C-man ales and had one of their newer items, Bessie & Porky. It's a burger with BBQ pulled pork on top. It just confirms my theory that the only way to make meat better is to put more meat on top of it!

Franconia Ridge or The Hike That Was Almost My Last -- 1/31/09

I know what I'm doing in the mountains. Unfortunately, knowledge (and a dash of pride) can be a dangerous thing. I've been known to roll the dice and take some chances from time to time, but this time I almost rolled snake eyes. Saturday morning I found that I had overslept. I figured I'd...

    Mt. Cabot Trail open?

I lead a group up there that way last winter. We noticed that the trailer that belonged to the landowner who had the issue with hikers was gone. This means that he is not living there anymore and probably won't great you with a rifle. He may very well still own the land, but the Forest Service...

You bring cake, I'll bring steak! 2-22-09

I've now marked this on my calendar, so a fun day will be assured! I'm looking forward to hiking with friends and having a burger and a beer (or two) on the top. Gotta love winter hiking. Maybe my buddy, Swiss Bob will make an appearance as well... ;)

    Cheap Sleeps in the Whites

$60 is a bit steep for those of us staying solo. Hiker's Paradise is still the best deal around. The hiker rate has gone up to $20 now, but I stayed there Monday night and had the level to myself. Still no indoor sleeps around $20 in the Twin Mtn area, which the only other place I'd want it...

40 MPH Speed Limit Today 1/28 on All NH Roads

I think this is a good idea. Sometimes you have to enforce common sense for people to listen to it.

    Tuesdays with Moriah -- 1/27/09

Coming off a great hike on Monday and a good night's rest at Hiker's Paradise, I decided to try my fortunes again yesterday. After fueling up with a big breakfast at Welsh's, I headed over to the Carter-Moriah trailhead and once again got a 10am start. I seemed slow out of the gate frequently...

    Cold Killing Carters -- 1/26/09

Actually, I finished the W48 last winter. This was just for my progress on The Grid. I'm making another attempt at the peaks in the Rangeley-Stratton area President's Day weekend and have a trip to Baxter in March (going for North Brother). After that though I'll be training for the...

    Cold Killing Carters -- 1/26/09

When I climbed Starr King and Waumbek on Saturday, I found that afterward I was feeling somewhat better and that my cold wasn't as intense. Sunday with not having hiked, I found I was feeling the same as the day before. It got me thinking that maybe hiking was easing my cold symptoms. Since I...

    S#!*loaf & the Bigalows -- 1/17/09

So I was staying up at the Maine Roadhouse for the weekend with big plans. Soon the weather and ski patrol was going to squash those plans. On that Saturday, I headed up the Tote Road on Sugareloaf in -18 temps and the ski gestapo soon stopped me. They asked to see my ticket and I said that I...

    Starr King & Waumbek -- 1/24/09

Due to my having a bad head cold, me and three friends downgraded our plans and did this hike. We parked at the monument near the Irving station since when we tried to park in the "Trail Parking" lot one of the cars got stuck. We barebooted to the summer trailhead, then put on snowshoes. The...

    Too cold to hike?

If I have a plan, the temp or winds almost never change them. My motto is "I have a layer for that!" I'm heading up to the western mountains of Maine for some 4K action this weekend. Cold weather be damned...
