Plus it's got the Mt. Washington Fox on the cover! I brought it to work today to read at lunch time (or when no one is watching).

    Best Photos

Here are my 3 favorites from this summer's trip to the Scottish Highlands. The rainbow kept coming and going as we descended, so we just waited for it to come in bright for the photo. http://community.webshots.com/photo/519322886/519324888pLcgkz...

Yes, sorry didn't mention that. Plymouth, Vermont.

    NE Caves and other curiosities.....

When we went up there and found the mine, there was an old man (again I was just a kid then) panning for gold in the brook. He pulled out a glass jar and showed us a small nugget that he claimed came from the brook. The mine is on the left side of the brook as you are going up stream. I can't...

    NE Caves and other curiosities.....

Wow, I haven't thought about Devil's Den in many years. I think I was probably 6-7 years old when my father took us to visit it (43 years ago). Are the Plymouth caves you are talking about on the West side of Rt 100, North of the lakes? If so, we explored those maybe 2-3 years later. There...

    Bear hibernation dates/zones/beta

A few years ago, there were 3-4 turkeys that hung out in the parking lot where I worked. When it rained, they would huddle under the roof by the employee entrance, not letting anyone in or out. We would have to walk around the building to the main entrance. This was just outside the city of...

Opinion on what made these scratches?

I would lean toward Moose, as I never ever saw this until late 70's when Moose started making their way into Vermont in quantities. Only trees I've ever seen bear marks on were Beech trees.

    Rescue/help me.

In Scotland this summer, my wife and I came upon some people shouting across a steep ravine to some hikers on the other side that we couldn't see. They had apparently bushwacked up the other side and were now stuck as there was a drop off of about 100 feet to the river below and they said they...

    question for the explorers

If I recall my Vermont Geography class from UVM correctly (and it was a long tome ago), nost of Philadelphia ended up absorbed into the town of Chittendon, which is why Chittendon is the largest town in Vermont (again from memory, so maybe not completely correct).

    Novels: White Mountains

Enjoyed his (Tom Eslick) novels very much. He also has/had some records that he put out in the mid 1970's that are very good. I have them on vinyl, don't know if they were ever put out on CD or if he released more since then. Acoustic singer/songwriter type of stuff.

"Not so cheap" sleeps in the Whites ?

The Attitash resort hotels in Bartlett (but not this weekend as there will be 20 rugby teams there!) Most of us were able to get rooms in the $50-80 range, some with jacuzzi's.

    Fisher Cat

I saw one last night in Pelham, NH about 100 yards from Mass border. I've seen more in the last two years in Southern NH, Northern MA than I did growing up in Vermont.

You are not alone in Ascutney being your favorite. It has been mine forever, despite breaking my leg skiing it. Nice to see it getting respect.

    weather

I spent 2 years in Texas (Dallas area) and will never, ever leave New England. The Change of seasons and rapid change of weather are what make it so great.

    Old trails

The old Killington Hotel road, which is close to the Bucklin trail but mostly South of it and really hard to find.

    Mendon from the South

Has anyone ever bushwacked Mendon Peak from the South? I remember from many many years ago a jeep road that would get you in pretty close.
