Icy trail conditions - a question

I'm thinking of hiking either the Mt Garfield Trail or the Edmunds Path this week, possibly Wednesday which right now looks like it's going to be a nice day. Has anyone been on either of these trails recently? I was wondering how bad the ice flows on them are right now. Since both trails aren't...

    Beaver Brook Trail question

My dog, Patches, and I did hike the Beaver Brook Trail last Friday, both up and down. The steep section wasn't bad at all; in fact, the falls and cascades made the trip rather pleasant. I can see how it would be more difficult under wet or especially icy conditions. A thin coating of ice on the...

    Beaver Brook Trail question

Thanks for all the help. I'm going to hike it with my dog, Patches, tomorrow. It's been pretty dry lately and tomorrow is supposed to be another nice day. Patches is working on her 4000 footers. Tomorrow will be number 15. She just turned 2 this summer. Our dog Muffin, who died in 2013 at the...

    Beaver Brook Trail question

In terms of difficulty, steepness, and slippery conditions, how does the Beaver Brook Trail compare to other trails with similar issues in the White Mountains, for example, the Fishin' Jimmy Trail, the Wildcat Ridge Trail from Pinkham Notch, the Falling Waters Trail, the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail...

    Kinsman Ridge Trail conditions question

Has anyone been up (or down) the Kinsman Ridge Trail between the Cannon Mtn Ski Area and the summit of Cannon recently? I'm headed there tomorrow and wondering whether I can get away with microspikes or will have to carry my snowshoes. Thanks.

    Road to Berlin Fish Hatchery

Thanks. I didn't know that the road was paved. I guess I just assumed it was like all the other forest roads. I was only going to take the York Pond Trail as far as the Bunnell Notch Trail junction, not all the way to the notch between North Weeks and South Terrace.

    Road to Berlin Fish Hatchery

I've never done Cabot from the Fish Hatchery and am thinking of going later this week. Is the road passable without a 4-wheel drive vehicle. I don't want to get stuck. Also, has anyone been up to Cabot via the York Pond, Bunnell Notch, and Killkenny Ridge Trails lately? Is the trail easy enough...

    Hancock water crossings

Has anyone done the Hancocks lately? I was wondering how bad the brook crossings were right now.

Tom and Field via Avalon, A-Z, and Willey Range Trails

Date of Hike: February 9, 2012 Trail Conditions: All trails were clear, easy to follow, and well packed. There were a couple of short sections with minor drifting, and also some icy patches, particularly in the steep gully on the A-Z Trail and on the steep portion of the Avalon Trail between Mt...

    Mushroom Identification Help

Does anyone know what kind of mushroom this is? I took the picture on the Mt Clinton Trail back in September. Thanks.

    Hiker Rescued in Huntington Ravine

I don't know how far they were above the Fan, but if they were close to the top, the Auto Road is just a short distance beyond. Of course, I wasn't there (or even in the mountains that day), and don't know how bad the weather was getting.

    Hiker Rescued in Huntington Ravine

This happened on Saturday. I thought I'd post it since no one else has yet. Luckily, according to the article, it looks that he's going to be OK. Does anyone know him and/or is he someone who logs onto Views from the Top? Huntington Ravine is not a good place to descend, especially when wet...

Lafayette & Lincoln via Greenleaf, Franconia Ridge, Falling Waters Trails & Bike Path

Lafayette & Lincoln via Greenleaf, Franconia Ridge, Falling Waters Trails & Bike Path Date of Hike: 5/25/2011 Description: I went up the Greenleaf Trail from the Cannon Mtn Tramway parking lot. As Mohamed mentioned, there were a few small patches of ice in Eagle pass, and also a few on the...

    Rescue on Mount Jackson

Jackson is tougher in the winter than its elevation and distance from the road would suggest. On the Webster-Jackson Trail, once you get to the area just below the summit cone, the trail tends to disappear. Tracks usually lead in several directions, mostly not up the actual trail, and people...

    Cannon Mtn Trail Conditions Question

Has anyone been up or down the Hi-Cannon Trail recently? I'm thinking of going tomorrow (Tuesday March 15). I was just wondering whether the trail was packed out and what the conditions were around the ladder. Thanks.
