    Upper Valley Beer Night interest?

Thursday works for me! Anybody else going? Come on, I know there are some Upper Valley residents lurking out there . . . :D

    Beavers removed from below Cannon

Attack-Beavers? Maybe they were moved because they were a direct threat to campers. When Beavers Attack :p

    Upper Valley Beer Night interest?

My vote is for the Seven Barrel Brewery, but only because I haven't been there yet. EDIT: needs to be after 7PM too . . . gotta help put the rugrat to bed

    Lyon's Hospitality has been sold

I grew up in Twin Mtn, and its decline began long before 9/11. I suppose 9/11's impact on the economy may have been the final nail in the coffin, but the decline isn't new. The "strip" that starts at Lyon's used to be very busy (Fun Town, Paquette's, etc.) when I was a kid, but business was...

    Hikes for my future sherpa?

I have fond memories of hiking the Sugarloafs (in Twin Mtn) and Mt Willard when I was knee-high to a grasshopper.

    Old Garfield Shelter

I'm not sure we're talking about the same spot. The campsite (cluster of sites, really) is maybe 20 feet off the trail . . . not the pond side of the trail, but the opposite. Also as someone mentioned, the trail has been moved further away from the pond (more south) than it was when the...

Truth Time: Could you survive 24 hours?

It depends upon the injury, but I'm confident I could survive 24 hours. No matter how short my hike, I always carry a little extra food, reasonably warm clothing, rain gear, and material to start a fire. I can't really take credit for this preparedness though . . . my wife won't let me out...

    Old Garfield Shelter

Those old topo maps were the source of my confusion. There's a heavily impacted not-so-stealth campsite on the south side of the trail. I packed out a bunch of trash from the site on Sunday. It's really a bummer. There are large patches of nearly-dead moss from the tents, fire rings, trash...

    Old Garfield Shelter

Was the old Garfield Shelter on the pond side of the Garfield Ridge Trail or on the opposite (south) side of the trail?

Lincoln Woods to Bond Cliff; lots of wildlife

I was wondering about this too. I would be a little nervous. OK, OK, I'd be quivering in my boots

Cannon, NH : fast, dark and sad (but overall very pleasant)

That might have just been a fox. They make what sounds to me like a distress call.

Selfish egomaniacs destroy fragile habitat on Katahdin.

If you're implying that the person who shot the video is an accomplice, I disagree. If you look at their other Youtube posts, there are no other paragliding videos. It looks like they were just at the right place at the right time.

Doin the Pemi - A bubble bath kinda day!

Nice job! This explains all the "fast & light" hikers on Garfield Ridge on Saturday.

Lafayette & Lincoln via Skookumchuck 6/16/2007

I did this a few weeks ago, in reverse. Although it was unplanned (I bailed out of a longer hike . . . my eyes were bigger than my quads), it was definitely a nice hike.

    Trail Work Tools

Well, I'm a newbie at trail work, but yes, I always thought an adze was for woodworking. I'm often wrong (my wife will back me up on this), and I may be wrong here as well. As for the the beer selection at Dan and Whit's, this thread isn't about where to get good beer. Their store was...

    Trail Work Tools

Thanks for the input everyone. Checked out Dan and Whit's, but alas, no hazel hoes . . . lots of other tools though (and a good excuse to stop by the Norwich Inn for a pint of Whistling Pig . . . I highly recommend it :D ). Dan and Whit's will do special orders, so I might try that, or one of...

Thanks! They have a great beer selection too. Some good beer and a hazel hoe . . . I'll be content :)
