Hiking with babies and young children ?

I used a sling to take my Granddaughter on walks and a couple of hikes until she was ~6 months old. I then purchased a Kelty pack and took her out many times hiking the fire towers in the summer/fall this year. She really enjoyed the Kelty pack and looking around at everything while we hiked.

    Recommended GPS?

Garmin 60CSx does it for me. Never lost a signal on any of the NH48 hikes. Batteries last a weekend of hiking. You can read the screen in the bright sun (unlike cell phones). I had mine for 2 years and its been on every hike with me in all seasons, not a single problem. It has been...

    Vancouver BC Area Hiking recomendations

Thanks for all the great pointers everyone! I have a nephew who lives in Vancouver that was telling me about the Grouse Grind. He used it to test girl friends to see if they were fit enough for him  I'm pretty sure he is going to want to "test" me on that hill. I "tested" him back in...

OldMan Ed finishes the Winter 48 on Moosilauke

Thanks folks. I've been pretty lazy about posting TRs. Since a lot of my Winter hikes have been with Tim I been relying on him posting. He's writes much better TRs anyway. Now Winter48 is done it's on to my Spring48! I did 27 of them last year so 21 left.

    Snowshoe pain

My hips usually bother me on the first several trips with snowshoes in the winter season. I find it gets better as the season wears on. Also stretching these muscles before starting seems to help me.
