Thanks for the greenie and nice comments on my post. Sorry we didn't get a chance to introduce ourselves. It was a bit crazy up there. What an amazing day. Your presentation to Quinn was definitely one of the highlights. Hope we run into you on the trails again someday.

    QR Codes on the Trail

My job is technology. I'm a geek. And you can call me a curmudgeon (well beyond Brian's 32). This is simply crazy! Bring a map. Even bring a GPS. Leave the barcodes in the supermarket and OFF the trail!

A Public Plug for REI's Customer Service Approach

They are the best for customer service. Hands down. End of story. EMS is catching up and has adopted a similar "return everything forever" policy. Nice to have options. Of course there are also the REI garage sales. Crazy low prices on stuff others have returned. Often near brand new...

Monroe, Washington, (Clay,) Jefferson - March 12, 2012

And well you should be smiling!! What an amazing day. I knew that K,J&E were doing the hike this day and based on your FB posts figured you were with them. Nice that Justin joined you too. The pics and account of the day are outstanding! Looking forward to seeing Kevin's version as well...

Witnessing a Vision Realized on Cannon - 3-10-12

Thanks everyone! It was definitely a day I'll remember for a long time to come. Owen - there are other nicer routes to Cannon (at least in the snowless seasons) coming in the KRT from the other side but this was perfect for this day. You're right about the scale on the cliffs. You feel very...

It's spring in southern NH (Monadnock)

When you're ready for those "gems" let us know - we'd love to join you!

It's spring in southern NH (Monadnock)

Nice tongue in cheek report Owen (accompanied by beautiful pics). :) Monadnock is a great spring and fall hike and I love that we can get there from RI in 2 hours as opposed to double that for the Whites. It has become one of our favorite places over the last few years. If you know the right...

Witnessing a Vision Realized on Cannon - 3-10-12

It was simply an incredible day to be in the mountains yesterday. A bluebird winter day on Cannon would always be special, but yesterday was so much more. We had the privilege of seeing history being made as Randy Pierce and Quinn, his seeing eye dog, complete the single season winter 48...

    Isolation Winter 'Whack Track?

Thanks everyone. Good advice. I'm quite sure that we won't need the track and that the packed out route will be obvious. Always nice to have the track for backup just to be sure. Thanks to the couple of people that PM'd and emailed me the tracks. Now if the snow just hangs around for...

    Isolation Winter 'Whack Track?

Has someone got a GPS track for Isolation using the winter bushwhacks? I'd swear I've seen one posted here before but couldn't find it with several searches. If the near-summer temps this week don't totally destroy the conditions we're hoping to give it a go next weekend.

    Seeking Advice Concerning Nepal Trek

Go check out The Nepal Chronicles on ekpadventures.com. Dan and Meena did an unguided trek to Everest base camp andKala Patthar in 2010. Great account of the whole journey. http://ekpadventures.wordpress.com/the-nepal-chronicles/

Climbing the North Tripyramid North Slide 3/4/12

Welcome to VFTT Grant! Nothing like starting of with a bang for your first post. Great TR and pics. North Slide is a serious challenge in winter. You guys made the most of it for sure. Congrats!

Madison & Adams and some winter finishes

Way to go gang! You've definitely earned your winter patch Sabrina. What a great "group of groups" that have shared the way with you. And congrats to Mark and Val for their SSW48 finish. Definitely a day for celebration!!!

Hiking the Ossipee's: Mount Shaw and Black Snout

Nice way to end off the week (or maybe not quite yet?). This is another one that we haven't done yet that's on the "fall list". You definitely maximized your hiking value this time up and it was nice of the weather to cooperate (although I'm sure you would have liked a bit more snow). Time to...

Lens protection when lens cap removed

On any camera that I have that will take a filter I always have either a UV or Skylight 1A installed to protect the lens. Both are neutral enough to leave on the time (I'm sure that I'll get dinged for that but I'm more interested in protecting the lens than being a purist).

Jockey Cap and Pleasant Mountain, Maine 2/15/12

OK, one more that I hadn't heard of before to add to the "someday" list. Love the "peak finder" at the top. Should be one of those on every summit ;)
