    Whiteface?

Confused, you bet I'm amused! I'm bringing skiis, snow shoes, poles, crampons and ice axe. Which of the afore mentioned items might I not need?

    Whiteface?

I'm heading up, I believe it's called the Willmington trail from the Observatory on Friday or Saturday afternoon and I'd like to know the trail conditions. Also the auto road, how was it and how is it, before and after snow? And, how much snow, if any did they get in Willmington? We got about...

    Whiteface, 3/25 or 26?

I'm planning on going up Whiteface either Friday or Saturday afternoon, and skiing, snow shoeing or walking down the autoroad in the moonlight, depending on the weather. Anyone interrested? I hate to go alone, but....

    Fischer vs. Karhu

Dave's right, Karhu bought out Trak and their patent on the positive fishscale pattern, which gives them greater kick and poorer glide. Since then their patent has expired and I believe Rossi is the only other company that has incorporated it into their ski line. I own the Fisher Rebounds, which...

    Downhill Skiers Wanted!

Hi, I just got a bronze pass at Mount Snow, Haystack, Pico, Killington, Attitash, Sunday River, and Sugarloaf. I'll probably ski Pico regularly, on weekends, but I intend to make weekend trips to Attitash, Sunday River, and maybe a mid week trip to Sugarloaf. I'm looking for skiers to share the...

    Shepards tooth this sunday

Super route! Hey Hillman, That sounds like a great hike, wish I could make it! The hard part will be the bushwhack down over Sheppard's Tooth to the Col, be careful, if you go alone! Ken

    Irishtown Snowmobile Trail - Minerva

Hi, I'm baaack! I checked out the trail, and it is slightly over grown, but manageable I think. I just got back last night so I can't really say if I'm ready for next weekend, I've got to get some stuff done around the old homestead, but I'll let you know ASAP.:D

    Irishtown Snowmobile Trail - Minerva

That trail is often overgrown, but someone, I don't know who, clears it occassionally. I'll check it out this trip, and report back next week. We should find out how many people would be interested in mountain biking it, and set a date. We'd have to set up a shuttle. What do you think?

    Irishtown Snowmobile Trail - Minerva

I know some people who have mountain biked it. In fact, I'd like to MB it! It was years ago, but as I recall most of the trail is on old wood roads. Which makes sense because the old dam at Lester Flow was installed by Finch Pruyn to float logs down the Boreas, and there are quite a few hunting...

    MacNaughton, 5/27/04?

I'm headed up north today to do some hiking, fishing, etc. Thought I'd attempt MacNaughton tomorrow from the Upper Works via Indian Pass bushwack if anyone's interrested. Hopefully the bugs and the runoff won't be too bad. After reading Tim's report on Indian Pass Brook while attempting Marshall...

    Upper Works and Flkowered Land

Hey Schatz, I went up Iroquois last spring on the first 80 degree day. I left from the Upper Works, in to the Ranger station at Colden, and then up "the steepest trail" in the Adks. I was going to go down from Shephard's Tooth and hit Marshall, but the herd path to get to S'sT was so thick, I...

    suggestions/tips for 1-week hike?

I agree with JimB, if you want to see less people, hike out of the Upper Works. Head into the western high peaks if you really want privacy, like Duck Hole and down the Cold River to Long Lake. If it was secluded enough for Noah Rondeau, it should work for you! I believe you can still have a...

Best route to dayhike Haystack, Basin and Saddleback

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No mud pits to wallow thru, no cables to dangle from, no rock faces to scramble down [/B] That's what make a trail fun, isn't it!:D

Best route to dayhike Haystack, Basin and Saddleback

Hi again, After reading Rick's post I'm thinking maybe I was right, maybe it was a little scary! I remember thinking that at the time, with a big smile on my face.:D

Anyone know any "psycho in the woods" type stories?

The "H" man is a great story for around the campfire. Too long to tell you on this site, but I will say that he's burried in the graveyard across from the Boy Scout camp Wakapominie. (sp?) It took place in Fort Ann across Lake George to Lake Luzerne in the early 1800's. So, if you're ever in...

Break Out the Bug Dope: The Ticks are Here!

I live on Glen Lake about 50 miles north of Albany, and I always hike north of where I live. I hate wearing bug dope, and put it on as a last line of defense against black flies and misquitos. They really have to be bad! Last hunting season a friend of mine from the Albany area was saying how...
