Bartlett's Carry: Upper to Middle Saranac

Hilarious!!! Sounds like a set of iron skid plates are in order! Last year when we did Long Lake/Cold River, it was 4/17 and not a 'berg' of ice in site. I know every year is different but hopefully the water will be open...'specially on that inlet to Weller Pond. And btw...I saw Saranac...

Bartlett's Carry: Upper to Middle Saranac

Right on! For this trip through the Saranac Lakes, I was thinking of using my 17 foot sea kayak (and I still might since the portaging isn't too bad this trip) but I am having second thoughts. The kayak is great on the open water but the canoe is always a better deal when it comes to...

    North Germantown/Hudson Boat Launch Eagle

Awesome. If it wasn't for the quick view of the bridge in the background, you could tell people that the video was taken on the Hudson Bay, not the Hudson River. Very cool.

    pictures of paddling campsite privies?

No pun intended, right? :o At least the blue lets you find it right away...in case of emergency...;)

Bartlett's Carry: Upper to Middle Saranac

Thanks ALG Bob...so one can actually drive right up to Upper Saranac Lake via the Indian Carry? I was under the impression that paddlers had to park on Route 3 and could only portage to the Lake...but you say it's an actual road? Thanks.

Bartlett's Carry: Upper to Middle Saranac

Hey'all Am in the early stages of planning a trip with ColdFeet on the Saranac Lakes. One question I have is...has anyone made the portage between Upper and Middle Saranac Lakes a little shorter by skirting around the dam on that channel rather than the half mile Bartlett's Carry...

    Prolotherapy

Not personally myself but a guy I work with/ride with did prolotherapy (injections, right?) for several months on his knee. In the end I don't think he can say that his knee got any better from it. Insurance did not cover it and he spent a lot of $$$ on it too from what I remember. Yoga?

And that sounds like a good one too. My library has it. Think I'll pick it up next week. Thanks.

No bro...I think I lent you 'Contested Terrain'...more about the history of the people who settled the area.

    Book Recommendation

Little Rickie knows. ;) The "Geology of New York: a Simplified Account" published by the NYS Museum is pretty good. Lots of good maps and photographs as well. I think it actually came with a geologic map of NYS when I ordered it. Like the title says, it covers the whole state but a lot of...

    Choosing BC Skis

I couldn't agree more. Not worth the $$$. But Hikerfast...if your looking for something like that, maybe look into these... I've seen them mentioned on this site also. Looks as if the whole package is less than the LLBean snowshoe/skiis alone. Practicality is always the question though.

    Solo PaddleR Across the Atlantic,..

Amazing feet no doubt but how'bout Franz Romer who did it in 1928. They didn't have sat phones back then. Talk about courageous.

    Total Knee Replacement Question

Just spoke with good ole' Coldfeet...:D:D:D ;):D...he's doing great. He has a machine bending his knee for him 3 times a day for 2 hours to improve flexability. Is using a walker to get around. He should be home this weekend I think he said. We're planning a trip up Trap Dike Monday if...

    Adirondack Temps

Well, for those of you who live in Saranac Lake, listen to the local weatherman in the morning and see if he blurts out a record low temperature during his report.

    Adirondack Temps

Ahh. Thanks for the clarification. When was that?

    Adirondack Temps

If I read this correctly from wunderground, the record low for Saranac Lake was back in 1976 at minus 30. Tonight's the night! New record to be set maybe. And from this website...

    Adirondack Temps

Am I reading this correctly...Long Lake tonight...-36F?!? Looks as if many of the high peaks areas are getting some really cold temperatures tonight. cA on its way! As low as 1 here on Long Island.
