    $349 for gas

Don't support the gougers!!! I'm in Lincoln most weekends and Muncie's on main Street is consistently crazy high. I understand that this is a "THE KANC" but this past Sunday, Muncie in Lincoln was $3.49 and the Shell Station I stopped at in Manchester was $3.11. I'm personally offended by this...

    Road Questions - help please

The Jefferson Notch Road may not open until well into May. The problem is, on top of the heavy snow pack, the road tends to wash out easily making it not passable. So after the snow melts we wait for the repair crews to do their thing. Can't wait for it to open myself.

    Amazing Camping Food?

Crab Alfredo This is one of my most memorable. We had just hiked into Davis Pond @ BSP from Chimney Pond. And it was easy: Can of lump crab 1/2 stick butter Parm cheese Powdered milk Dry pasta I did this with my partners whisperlight (he boiled the pasta), and I made the alfredo sauce with my...

    Bonds Traverse?

This is somewhat limited but, I skied from Lincoln Woods to Franconia Falls on Sunday after the snow. The trail is well groomed and consolidated. Many people were snowshoeing but also a few bare booting with little trouble. Hope this helps, have fun.

Lots of Rescues - Taking Stock

After watching the news story on WMUR I can't help but think this is just knee jerk saber rattling by NH politicians/officials. If you're a taxpayer you own those helicopters and pay the crew's salaries and the fuel bills. The SAR folks (God love them and keep them safe) are volunteers and those...

    Mount Washington midnight hike!!

A friend of mine from Pemi Valley rescue just forwarded this story to me. After the Franconia Ridge rescue this week, I don't think this is sitting too well! Oh well, to each his own. Mt. Washington night climber wanted 'solitude' 9 hours, 44 minutes ago A man who sought some "quiet and...

    How old are you ?

I think Timmus nailed it, it really is where you are in your life. I'm 52. It seems that the first half of my life, and growing up in a rural area, all I wanted was to get away from the mountains and let loose in the city. Now, as I spend most of my waking hours in meetings in big buildings in...

    Baxter State Park Rules

First, I would suggest you call the park, 207-723-5140 and ask. I've been a regular visitor to BSP for over thirty years and have always found the staff to be extremely accessible and helpful. Now, just to guess, many of their rules have evolved over the years, and continue to evolve, based on...

A great day on Jackson, and then...........

Many thanks to all for posting and your kind words. I can't wait to get back out there, winter is gone so quickly. An interesting aside; my Doc has told me to stay as active as I can stand. Apparently the greatese potential problem with this kind of injury is not fully expanding your lungs and...

    Into Thick Air...

In case you ever decide to return to RI to re-summit the mighty Jerimoth, or maybe you dropped a snowshoe and have to go back, you forgot two extremely important driving requirments. First, disable you're turn signals. We don't allow them in RI and in fact you can be arrested on the spot for...

A great day on Jackson, and then...........

It can happen in an instant, and it did. We, (myself and two of my usual hiking buddies), had just finished a fun climb to the top of Mt. Jackson on a great day. Ice everywhere but no problem ascending. We dropped down over the cone and headed for Webster, anticipating an enjoyable ridge walk...

    Winter Question

Critter notes. Two Points: 1st, I hiked Skookumchuck to N. Lafayette this weekend and crossed a very fresh bear track in the snow. They are still out and moving around. By the way, just below the summit cone, there was at least 16" of fresh snow in the woods. I was crying for snow shoes. 2nd...

    Worst "footing" in the Whites

Its not in the Whites, but, the top half of the Saddle Trail coming off the Table Lands in Baxter is by far the worst footing I've had the pleasure of enjoying.

Best hike to celebrate the Red Sox winning the ALCS?

Im headed for the summit of Lafayette, its closest to Francona (SP) Notch. At the top I'll cast a smug gaze toward the Bronx, and then blast the DropKick Murphys on my portable CD player until someone tells me to shut it the bleep up. Yea!!!
