    Fox on Washington...

I like the off center of the fox. His body his set to take off to the left and you can see where he's going to go. Because of those few more rocks on the left you can see the path he will travel when he's done being patient with the intruder taking his photo. Are you done fella?, I've got some...

    Slide scanners

I have an HP Photosmart 4070, 2400 x 2400 dpi and 48 bit. Comes with a slide retainer for copying up to 6 slides at one time. I agree with Darren. It's Ok for the occassional old slide that I want to post but that's about it. It's deadly slow and dust comes out of nowhere. Maybe I really...

First thread to kick off the forum - yard birds

I've already learned a new trick reading just one thread- put up a natural branch in the yard to get shots that look like they're taken in the wild! This new section is already valuable with it's first post! Thanks Darren!

What size backpack for 8 Days of Food and Equipment?

I'll add that my REI UL is holding up fine also. But again, it doesn't get any tough hikes. I've been using it on all my day hikes, especially in the high peaks. But for backpacks, I prefer my external frame Kelty. Or when I need to haul serious weight, like last night for New Year's Eve it...

    stove pumps and odd pots

Svea 123 and Sigg Tourist Set- I own both. Haven't run the Svea in a while because I had a flare up a couple of years ago and was worried about a leak. Any one know where maintenance parts would be available?

    Dehydrating eggs?

I prefry my bacon all year round to go camping and for the pack. Even if it's just an overnighter at the trailhead you've got quick bacon and eggs. Crack the eggs and throw the bacon in next to them in the pan to heat up. Precooked bacon is great trail snack food also. Pick up a little...

    don't fear orange!

Next thing you'll be telling me there's no Easter Bunny! Hunter orange-wore it in my younger days when I did a little hunting and now when I don't. The last two weekends I've headed into the woods with hunters at the trailhead. We made it a point to chat with the guys and let them know...

Who here is afraid of mud?

So... you probaly wouldn't want to get her some expensive spa facial mud packs for Christmas. Adirondack mud-part of the high peaks scenery. Lack of mud, in other regions of the park, is one of the reasons I enjoy hiking out of the high peaks.

    Hikers Winter Bird Guide

Recieved my copy. You put a ton of work into this! Well written, and what a great idea for the Christmas Bird count to put out this guide. Your participants are lucky to have you coordinate this. I'd really like to see that cardinal! :D

    Hypothermia on Eisenhower

So Keith, if I happened to recognize that myself or my son was starting mild hypothermia, then a good idea would be to mix some jello up with whatever temperature water we had, and while that was taking effect take the time to heat up some water for a second jello box? The asssumption here...

    Hypothermia on Eisenhower

The OA site in chip's post stresses to use diluted jello. What is the correct ratio of jello to water? Assuming the jello is carried in its original pouch (assuming small box), what amount of water should it be added to?

    Hypothermia on Eisenhower

I had forgotten about this and reading Darren's story reminded me of this happening. When I was 5 years old my brother and I had to wait for the school bus half a mile from our house. The neighbor let us wait under (yes under) her porch when the wind was bad. Whiteout conditions and amazing...
