care to discuss your winter day/climbing pack ?

I have the Mammut Ice 35 which is an almost identical pack. It is my dedicated SAR pack. The first time out with it I hated it but on the second trip out with it I actually forgot I was carrying a pack. I absolutely love it. My other winter day pack is the WildThings Guide pack. I really cant...

    Hooray for Jansport!

Back in 94 I hiked the AT(SOBO). My Jansport packs main zipper broke. I called them to see if they could refer me to a shop to get it repaired. They said they knew of none local(PA at the time) They instead mailed me a NEW pack at my next mail drop. All I had to do was repack my old pack and...

    Best Footwear for Fjording

I usually have an old pair of insoles in the bottom of my pack. Just stick the insoles in a pair of socks and WHAM -O instant water shoes. They take up little to no room and they are always in the pack. If weight and cost is an issue this works great.

I just received a news letter that asked "Is GPS just a 'Stupid Guy Thing?'' http://www.backcountrynavigator.com/content/gps-just-stupid-guy-thing?utm_source=newsletter I have to agree GPS is a stupid guy thing. The only women I know who use GPS are the women on the different SAR teams I work...

whether you are for or against the name change matters little to me. I would be more interested to know how many of you will be on the trail at 12:01 am the day the name changes? Who will be the first to summit Mt. Reagan? (assuming the name change happens) Who will be the first to complete...

Hiker OK After Getting Stuck On Mount Moosilauke

I wouldn't worry to much about how the dust settles. This is a story about a prepared hiker, who when faced with white out conditions prudently decided to "whole up" for the night rather than wonder around aimlessly getting lost. This is a story of hiker who had the proper gear and knowledge to...

Hiker OK After Getting Stuck On Mount Moosilauke

Thanks for the further explanation. I am sure it will be a lesson to all. Very Happy for you that things turned out so well:).......On a bit of a selfish note, I am very happy a SAR operation did not screw up my day of hiking:D.

    Performance Enhancing Meat Snacks

Not much more money than regular beef jerky, plus you get a little boost....If you regularly pack beef jerky and a power drink the cost of ''Perky Jerky'' is less money. I will probably buy it again after I run out. ...... Going to Katahdin for a week in February considering buying some more for...

about the same boost I get from drinking one of those awful tasting 2 oz "power shots" or " energy Shots" in the supplied literature I received it states 120mg of caffeine per oz of jerky....I believe that is equal to a large coffee:rolleyes: I ordered the 2 oz packages of jerky ...So two...

    Performance Enhancing Meat Snacks

Chip, Did well. :D Felt a noticeable caffeine "buzzyness" is buzzyness a word?......I did get a good little pick me up and unlike the caffeine power shots, they will not freeze and explode in your pack, leaving a sticky mess if you forget to take them out of you goody...

Perky jerky review Just got my shipment of PERKY JERKY:D!!!! I gotta say that it is very good tasting, slightly sweet with just a little bit of spicy bite to it. It is a soft jerky and not at all like shoe leather:) As a matter of fact it was so good tasting I ate a whole bag of it despite...
