    Access to East Kennebago??

Anybody have information about which roads are plowed/closed in the area of "the Landing", off Rte 16 between Stratton and Rangely, Maine? Is this a good approach to East Kennebago in the winter? A few of us want to bag this peak this Friday if possible. Any info would be much appreciated...

How to do Boundary Peak (NE HH)?

which roads are open? There seems to be divided opinion about passports.... Anyway, I understand that Tim Pond Rd is plowed up to the jct. with Sol Ridge. What about Burnt Mtn Rd and Wiggle Brook Rd. Are they usually UNplowed? What about Morton Cutoff and Lincoln Pond Rd?

How to do Boundary Peak (NE HH)?

What is the current thinking of the best way to approach and bag Boundary Peak along the ME/QC border in the winter? I know of someone in the past who went over White Cap, then Dennison Bog (frozen of course) to the boundary swath. I have also heard tell of an approach through Canada. How is...

    Bigelow traverse 2/3/07

Not enough down low to completely cover all rocks in trail, so I would guess 10 inche, seeing as we had about 6-7 inches of new. Up high, more in the cols, but summits had much bare rock.

New 6 Flags Ride: The Fool Killer

Another bushwhacker reports I received an email from Keith D'A just now: "My girlfriend and I bushwhacked to Scaur Peak as well as Fool Killer a couple of weekends ago. We left the pine brook trail and crossed the saddle through open hardwoods to the ridge of Fool Killer. I made sure we...

New 6 Flags Ride: The Fool Killer

No bottles found on Fool Killer Anne Gwynne, Eric Savage, Double Bow and a number of others and I did the Fool Killer via the ridge that parallels (sort of) Sabbaday Brook in November of 05. We traversed the whole ridge and descended the steep slope to the trail, and found no bottles despite...

    Saddleback but no Horn 2/4/07

Mike L and Al and I attempted the Saddlebacks the day after our epic Bigelow traverse. The weather forecast called for low temps but dropping winds, so we thought we had a shot at the peaks. Upon arriving at the Saddleback parking lot we checked in with the Ski Patrol to let them know of our...

    Bigelow traverse 2/3/07

Mike Milos and I led an AMC NH Chapter hike to these NE HH peaks. We chose beautiful weather for the hike, except for the predicted 10-20 mph wind with gusts to 30. Temps were in the teens or lower. Because of the wind, we elected to go up Horn Pond Trail and do a clockwise circuit, coming...

Elephant, Baldpate and (almost) Goose Eye

Had an enjoyable long weekend with the Boston chapter as we got 2 of 3 New England Hundred Highest peaks. Actually we did both peaks of Elephant, just to be thorough (thanks, Joe!), both peaks of Baldpate (that's where the trail goes, duh), and we missed Goose Eye by a long 0.4 mile when we...

    Mt Kelsey Bushwhack

Mt Kelsey Bushwhack 12/30/06 Roy, there was quite a bit of snow on top, probably 12-18 inches in spots. We wore shoes all the way from the main road that comes in from 26. In addition to being a steep route, it was pretty thick as well, and we were constantly skirting blowdowns, but they...

    Blue and Gore Bushwhack 12/23/06

Blue and Gore bushwhack I defer to people with more experience: RoySwkr and HikerDoc. Our route was not particularly thick, about average for a 'whack, few blowdowns. Easier than the 'whack to Kelsey. Nash Stream Road is not an option in the winter, of course.

    Blue and Gore Bushwhack 12/23/06

4 intrepid whackers, myself, HikerDoc, Ed K and Mitch braved steady rain and 6 inches of slushy snow above 3000' to bag these two NH HH. An 8 mile hike, completed in 6 hours. View the GPS track in the Blue and Gore Album: http://community.webshots.com/user/docross2243 Thanks to HikerDoc for...

    Mt Kelsey Bushwhack

Mt Kelsey Bushwhack 12/30/06 8 of us hiked into this beautiful peak on 12/30/06 from the road paralleling the West Branch of Clear Stream, which leaves NH 26 between Errol and Dixville Notch. Fred has posted his photos at: www.nhmountainhiking.com/kelsey.html. My photos are at...

    West and Main Hitchcock 2/15/2006

Fred S. and I started off from the Lincoln Woods parking lot today at 8:05, bound for the 3600+ foot summit of Hitchcock, the NH 100 highest peak. Along the way we planned to tag West Hitchcock, a 3000 footer. Our route left right from the parking lot on a bearing of 105 magnetic. Down low...

    Mount Field, West Peak 1/28/2006

This was an AMC hike led by HikerDoc and SnowLeopard. We took an (abandoned?) snowmobile trail off the A-Z trail, until it started bearing away from the summit. At that point, we could see the summit at a bearing of 110 to 120 magnetic, depending on who was looking, and we started the...
