Paris Expedition Sled?? - moved from Q&A

Thank you everyone for your response! I did locate one and yes it's the larger sturdier orange sled. Yes it's the SkiPulk with fibreglass poles. I found (called) an Abuchon (not easy to come by in my area of the state) he actually reffered me to an on line store. With shipping it was about...

    Adams, Jefferson 9/23-24

With a couple of days free i decided to take a solo journey to the Perch and visit Mt Adams and Jefferson. An early rise put me at Lowes Path around 10:00am. My goal was to head up to The Perch and grab a platform, then see what the weather was like and possibly do Adams. The day began with...

    Above treeline travel tricks?

I'll add one small bit of helpful information. When hiking up don;t forget to frequently "look back" the perspective you get going up is completly different than what things will look like going down. Especially in winter when everything pretty much looks the same. Not a big deal in good...

There is a lot of good gear available in varying price ranges. For 3 season i use marmot Pre Cip jacket and pants. They have worked very well for myself and my wife. While there can be issues with any Waterproof/Breathable fabric in certain conditions, the precips have been great. There light...

    Hking by myself

Red Cloud, Like many here i've done and do quite a bit of solo hiking and backpacking due to scheduling and odd days off. But it's a special feeling once you get used to it. Because you have limited trail time it may just be a matter of more time on the trail to increase your comfort level...

I'm on board with Monadock also. The whites are a 3.5-5 hour drive for me and i have an erratic schedule. I often hike it on Friday or go early and zig zag the lesser used trails. Huge variety of trails and forests and the big mountain feel up above. I've spent as little as 3 hours to as...

How often do you replace your hiking boots?

I have a pair of Limmer Standards for the rugged stuff and backpacking, and a pair of lightweights for faster dayhikes in the warmer weather. They have both held up very well. I have odd feet but was able to work with the stock limmers with a tongue pad. The people at Limmer are very helpfull...

    Boot Inserts - Worthwhile?

If your feet are comfortable, pain and blister free then I would say you certainly don;t need them. If on the other hand you have a problem your trying to solve they may be worth a try. The inserts can help with arch support or add cushion. I find the superfeet models can add arch support but...

    Last Minute Question "The Perch"

Yup, always have the other RMC camps as a back up. I don;t head up to that area too much in the busy season so had no idea how full, how fast it gets. Probably head up Lowes, Link, Israel Ridge, drop gear and visit adams friday then plan the other days weather dependent but it looks ok through sat.
