Trail Food: Dense Calories, easy to eat ?

Olive oil. It wins hands down. More calories per ounce than peanut butter, keeps well, does not freeze, etc. Just sip a little all day long, because it may be tough on your stomach if you drink a cup in one shot. And if you're one of those fancy high-society kind of people, you can soak a...

Does your S.O. read or post here?

Window smashed at Ethan Pond TH today

Cameras A number of years ago, in New York, there was a string of car break-ins. THey decided to install a camera. The camera was stolen. However, by luck and chance, they were caught doing that. Break-ins stopped.

    When I Die...

You're right. That was my original intention, but according to the adirondack UMP, I'm a non-conforming structure.

    When I Die...

It's probably illegal, but when I die, I'd like to be burried in my garden. My rotting body would provide nitrients to my tomatoes, peppers, etc. At least I'd be doing something useful..... And my kids would eat the vegetables, "Here, have another Papa-pepper.."

    Whats on your wish list?

Nothing. I'm satisfied with all the 'things' I have. I could use more time maybe. That a recipe for whirled peas sounds good too.

    Pants

Want some inexpensive pants? Go to your nearest goodwill store, and look at the mens dress pants. These are usually NOT cotton, and you can get a pair for a few bucks. You'd probably want suspenders with them. For the price you pay for them, you wouldnLt even feel bad cutting the legs and...

Tibetan prayer flags on summits -- yay or nay?

I've been known to set up prayer flags on summits when someone finishes something significant. I'll also set them up in the woods while doing some kind of trailwork project. I tell the workers that the flags make the rocks feel better, since we dig them up from their resting place and move...

Got Engaged on Slide over the weekend!

Nothing so romantic. We were watching TV (MacGiver). Someone proposed on the TV. The conversation then went: "Should we get married." "OK. If you want." "Realy?" "I think so." "When?" "Wait until the commercial." A mountaintop is a bit more romantic. Congratulations.

    Timmus down (surgery)

So, I'm a bit late getting onto this thread. Know why? It's because I don't care. No, I don't care whether you get well fast or slow... as long as you're better in time to work with us next spring/summer. And just remember. It could be worse. Be thankful that we, as humans, do not use our...

    Car sleeping

I was wondering who would pick up on that.... Hey. My degree is in math, not arithmetic. And of course there are other things than just price, but it is a useful exercise to do some calculations. It's interesting to see how much we pay for little things.... like it costs me $20,000 a year...

    Car sleeping

Does it equal out? Do the math. Lets say that you get 30 mpg, and you'll put 120,000 miles on the car. That means that you'll use 40,000 gallons of gas for the life of the car (use your numbers. I picked these so that I could do the math in my head.) Now, assume you go for something that...

    Car sleeping

Oh yeah. For the bug season, get yourself a few square feet of window screen (plastic, not metal) and you will be able to open your window for the night without the bugs getting in.

    Car sleeping

If you have a high enough clearance, you can also sleep UNDER it. I've done that when I had my van. Beleive it or not, the most comfortable car I've had is my corolla. The front seat. Better than the van, better than the Matrix, and better than ... gee, I forget the name of that blue one...

    Personal Locator Beacons

Looking at it from a risk/cost point of view (instead of a feelings based one) she'd be better off enrolling you in one of those movie stunt-man defensive/evasive driving courses. Insurance companies are great for keeping stats on what REAL risks in life are. Tell her to poke around some of...

    Mini-slide on Hancock

As I was speaking with you, I was thinking that you looked SOOO familiar, but I just couldn't place it. It was the slide which is fairly close to the trail, whatever that one is called. Somewhat long and narrow. Those rocks I heard started up fairly high, since the rumbling lasted a fair...

    Mini-slide on Hancock

Friday, I took a walk in the rain up the Hancocks. I started a bit early, and was alone. It is an area I am unfailiar with. As I reached the junction of the Hancock loop trail, I noticed a slide on North Hancock, and wondered if the trail took that route up. If it didn't, I was thinking that...
