    Rating system for bushwhacks ?

On some peak I won't name because of private property issues, the woods were so open that we buttslided on the fallen leaves. That's probably a 0 on the scale !

    Rating system for bushwhacks ?

Nope :(, it was the 4th flat, and mostly featureless peak of the day, so we didn't linger on.

    Rating system for bushwhacks ?

Is North Halcott the same as Sleeping Lion ? We were there last week, it was a walk in the park, well a walk with a 1700' ascent ;). Our High Falls peak -> Mongaup traverse would have also been a lot more difficult later in the season I guess. All my Catkills bushwack experience is from easter...

    Toughest 3000'ers in ADKs?

We tried McDonnel from Skylight at the end of winter, hoping for some crust, but it was a total failure :D. Will try again this year, but from Allen's summit.

    Toughest 3000'ers in ADKs?

Sentinel range is overrated, really not that bad. Blue ridge Mtn, West peak (Hoffman Notch wilderness) is tough, but I doubt it's one of the toughest.

    Bushwhacking trailess peaks

I'm clearly not in favor of sharing GPS tracks for bushwhacks (i.e. dispersed usage approach), but once a herdpath is already well defined, isn't the best LNT practice a concentrated usage approach ?

    Bushwhacking trailess peaks

Nearly all of them have a herdpath now, if you do some online research, you'll find where they start. You may want to skip it on PATN (it is illegally maintained) and go up the slide instead (and don't forget to visit the Nubble/Haystack itself, quite impressive). Btw, on Mendon, try to find...

Is it possible to be a long-term hiker without resorting to lists?

Try the ADK 3k' list for a change, many of them have no sign of human activity ;)

    Unrecognized Vermont 3000'er?

    According to peakbagger.com, its elevation is between 2960 and 2980 : http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=43117 (i.e. it's in NE500).

No more access to the Senecas (VT) ?

Went to Lost Nation rd. but we couldn't find a starting point that didn't feel too close of a private drive. Any hint ? Next try will be from S. American pond rd. if a low-clearance car can make it.

Have you done Elephant yet ? That XTerra makes it easy, try with a Fit ;)

    The Six Pack

It was my impression that all these logging roads along the 27/16 are "no fire, no camping". In the DeLorme Gazeteer (which you should grab a copy, they sold them in Eustis/Stratton btw), you can see "Maine public land" spot where camping is allowed on a road near the Cathedral Pines...

    Nun-Da-Ga-O ???????

No more access to the Senecas (VT) ?

Hi, just found a 2014 online paper (http://caledonianrecord.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionID=146&ArticleID=105664) that says the owner will make his land posted, cutting access to the snowmobiles, if someone has been there recently, can you confirm ?

    Mt Davis On Montalban Ridge

Mostly the same view as Isolation. We did it with Crawford, Resolution and Stairs from the 302. We have some pictures.

A new danger in the Mountains? (Tick borne disease)

My hiking partner got two of them probably while we were bushwacking along the redrock brook in the Pemi last week. (we spotted them soon enough that they were easy to remove and she had no reaction). I guess everyone here knows that the Blueberry ledge TH is infested with them.

    Bushwhacking techniques and goals

Watch for loose rocks going down from Adam's summit. It's not as bad as some other slides in the whites though.
