    Bushwhacking techniques and goals

Maybe I shouldn't say it out loud here, but Adams Slide tr. is in a better shape than some non-closed trails in the ADK ;) I wish you to find a better route up to alpine garden than us after the veil cascade  I guess you have read about the lost trail from Smugglers's notch (destroyed by...

I'm surprised not to find here a thread about the USFS Road Study, did I miss it ? (The study ends April, 30).

Place to Stay That r Open in Winter+ Early BRKFST

Hikers Paradise doesn't have a very good hygiene reputation... Last winter we were looking for a cheap place to stay and we finally camped a few times at Barnes fields (for coffee, I suggest Starbuck VIA ;)). It is even cheaper than Hancock and more accessible than 4th Iron (walk-in).

Road status in "western ME" ?

My last reply certainly should have been more polite, I'm sorry about it, but now this thread has already derailed enough. If I have a specific question I'll create another one.

    Vose Spur

We just followed the ridge and it was not a very tough bushwack, but I guess it always depend on what you standard is ;)

    Vose Spur

Don't miss the rubble slide, great views from there and it's not too loose. Our route was to come down from Carrigain and then we mostly followed the herdpath down (which led us to the slide). If you know where to look, all NEHH now have more or less easy to follow herdpaths (including the...

Winter Great Gully + Mt Adams?

Last year in march, we got a short section of NEI2 (kinda similar to Willey's and Shoestring) ice at the base of the gully then it was all snow that appeared to be well consolidated. We were lucky enough to follow some tracks all over from the shortline to the boulder field which is kinda a pain...

Experienced Hiker Looking for a New Mtn Range (i.e. Catskill advice, please)

My advice in the Catskills is "bring a bike" (or a second car of course) if you plan to do any day-long hike. WHP can then be added to BH-BD-TC, you can do the Western and Eastern Devil's path as two day hikes. Another good one is Basalm-Eagle-Big indian-Fir. Two other good hikes that don't need...

Road status in "western ME" ?

@Raymond, in case your not mocking me, I meant Private Property. Like the Penobscot territory or the Wind farms or others I may not be aware of. Yeah, I've read the signs on some of these roads (I've done the NEHH and a few 3k already), so I'm looking for more specific info/report about them...

Road status in "western ME" ?

Hi, We'll try to bag some 3k this fall in "western" ME, if anyone has recent info on the logging roads status it would be much appreciated (specially since we don't have a high-clearance car). BTW, I'm also interested in possible PP issues we may encounter. FYI, we were able to drive the...

How should col depths be calculated for a NH100 peak list?

Yard and Table Top Middle/East, but not Little Haystack. Nye is the worst above 4000'.

    Mt Paugus canister

Saturday we did a loop over Mount Paugus and Wonalancet Hedgehog (Old paugus trail / Old mast rd.) and after long cold minutes messing around the summit we were unable to find the canister, someone got to it recently ?
