Another rescue of unprepared hikers on Mt Washington

You also have to consider NY's completly opposite policy that apply in the Adirondacks (where most of hikers from Québec are because Montréal is closer).

There is a big tree fallen on the road after the sharp left turn and before the west slopes of N. Black crescent.

    Backcountry xc-ski in n-east

What would be the main difference with a similar, but heavier boot (X-12) : http://www.rossignol.com/US/US/bc-x-12_RI2WA91_product_nordic-men-boots.html ? Thanks again !

    Backcountry xc-ski in n-east

Do you think that the Rossignol BC X-6 75mm boots would be a good choice ?

    Backcountry xc-ski in n-east

Actually we have only the skis and I'm currently trying to figure out if nnn-bc or 3 pins bindings would better suit our needs. We have some downhill experience, but we certainly don't have the motivation/ambition to learn telemark. We have done many long winter day hikes in the past two three...

    Backcountry xc-ski in n-east

Hi, I'm looking for suggestions for trying out backcountry xc-skis (E99) this winter in the northeast. As we are working out the 3k's, closed roads approaches would certainly be an interesting option. Thanks.

How can a backcountry campsite be closed ? They will send rangers to make sure nobody put their tent down there ?

    Backroads around Tumbledown / Jackson

Hi, Last weekend we discovered the Tumbledowns and the Jacksons but we didn't try to reach Jackson's north peak. If someone know which roads / ATV trails (we noticed the one going up to the col between little and big Jackson) that could be a good access points to start the bushwhack, please let...

Are the guys we met at Elephant TH friday here ?

Friday morning two guys in a CRV arrived at the TH when we were ready to go on our hike (Bemis, East Elephant and Old blue) and eight hours later when we came back their car was still there so we were a bit surprised, I guess they just didn't find the herdpath and they had to bushwhack trough...

Access to Dixville and Kelsey ?

Thanks for the info. Never heard of an AMC "sanctioned" NH100 list, but we have done the one on nhmountainhiking.com. We're just doing 3k casually  edit : answer from BRP : I checked with our operations folks in the area and they assure me that the peaks are still accessible. In some...

    CVR and Carriage rd.

We never drove the CVR before it was fixed, so Saturday was the time. We followed it to other logging roads that brought us at the base of Redington pond range middle peak. With the recent rain, some sections were really wet, we nearly made it without getting some water in our boots. We got some...

Western Maine backroads status and bikes

Already got it, I swear not go bo back there without it after doing the NE100 :p As for loggers, any specific caution ? I guess an issue is to park the car somewhere safe (i.e. out of the way). BTW, are some of these roads known to be off limits to hikers ?

Western Maine backroads status and bikes

I was looking at the map for peaks on both sides of the 27, between Coburn Gore and Eustis/Stratton. We are from Sherbrooke (QC), so those peaks are really close to home.

Western Maine backroads status and bikes

Hi, We are planning to do some 3ks in Western Maine, so we are looking for any status report on the most used backroads to approach them (btw, we have a Honda Fit). Also, I rarely see in T.R. people using bikes when the road is impassable, is it because of the "no bikes" rule of the 4k or any...

Black crescent mtn PP issues ?

The map shows Crescent to be in Randolph Community forest, permission is clearly granted on their website. I was just curious about the part of land near Black Crescent.

Black crescent mtn PP issues ?

Hi, Is there really a small triangle of private lands near Black crescent mtn summit between the Ice Gulch Town forest and the WMNF as suggest by the map ? Thanks for any info.
