Wear sticky rubber I climbed the dike Sunday for the first time since Irene. The trees are indeed gone at the top of the waterfall. I would say sticky rubber shoes--such as approach shoes, rock-climbing shoes, or certain kinds of trail-running shoes--are as important as a rope, perhaps more so...

DEC announced this morning that this 10.2-mile route is now open again, but hikers may encountered some blowdown. My Adirondack Explorer blog includes the list of trails that are still closed.

Sad story.

I climbed the new slide on Cascade on Sunday and ran into Mudrat at the base. I guess that's no surprise. I wrote a short account for my Explorer blog and used a few of his photos. Click here to see the post.

More routes to High Peaks reopened Trails to Colvin, Blake, Sawteeth, and the Great Range are now open again. As are most trails in the Adirondack Mountain Reserve. Click here for more info.

Thanks for the quick replies. I figured someone would know. Any idea how old the slide is? It looked white (and so recent).

While flying over the western High Peaks today, I saw what appeared to be a fresh scar on Seward. Does it anyone know if it's new? I posted a photo here.

Climb of new Avy Pass slide I climbed the new slide in Avy Pass on Saturday. It's challenging. Rock shoes recommended. Read the full report here. I just added an aerial photo that shows the old and new slides on Little Colden. Gives you a good idea of the length of the bushwhack.

Nippletop trails reopen DEC has reopened the two trails leading to Nippletop. No other trails will be reopened until next week. More details here.
