    Marcy Dam bridge washed out

News gets worse I just got back from Marcy Dam and will post an update soon. The bridge is gone; I saw parts of it smashed against the rocks a little downstream. Some of the water from the pond has drained, revealing mud in the middle. But the really bad news is that the road to Adirondak Loj...

    Ermine Brook Slide conditions?

A friend has suggested we climb the Ermine Brook Slide this weekend and bushwhack to Santanoni's summit. I am reluctant as I've read the bushwhack from the top of the slide to the summit is horrific. He counters that with the snowpack we'll be above the trees. Who is right? Has anyone done this...

Skiers forced to bivy in Dix Mt. Wilderness

DEC conducted a search, but the men were able to ski out on their own. They were found at a trailhead three miles from their car. So I guess it's not a rescue (though I assume they were given a ride back to their car).

    Explorer Legal Defense Fund

I have been told that the original thread was removed out of concern that it seemed like a pitch for money. It's a fine line. On the one hand, I think paddlers would be interested to learn that the Explorer has set up a legal defense fund. On the other hand, I suppose any mention of the fund can...
