    Hiking Skirts

I think the confusion might come from not knowing whether you were wearing the kilt "regimental style" or not. I assume not, since you mention long underwear in an earlier post.

Skiing in Hokkaido Japan - Feb 2009

Unbelievably sweet! If you didn't have a pair of superfats you would sure want to get one for a trip like that. Did you ever ski on anything but powder the entire time? Very nice t.r. Thanks for sharing it with us, as envious as it makes me.

    Hiking Skirts

As a kilt-wearer myself I can say the biggest problem comes when you take that first step down out of a fire tower. Think Marilyn Monroe over the air grate.

    Mahoosuc Traverse 2/18/09

A successful trip from Goose Eye trailhead to Notch trailhead over 10 hrs on Wed. 2/18. Our base of operations was Billings Lodge in Randolph. Success Pond Rd. was open all the way up to and beyond the Notch Trail access road (which is not plowed but snowmachine packed). Neither trail showed...

    Skiing on Mount Cardigan

Cardigan is a must-do backcountry ski destination You can get some good info from this website: Dartmouth Outing Club Another excellent source is David Goodman's Backcountry Skiing Adventures for Maine & New Hampshire. The summit cone can have quite funky conditions while at the same time the...

Mahoosucs: Goose Eye Traverse to Notch Trail Descent 2/18

Three old farts are looking for company on a 10 miler: up the Goose Eye Trail to the Mahoosuc Trail with descent via the Notch Trail. We are planning on spotting a car at the end. Much depends upon the status of Success Pond Road. We will do a recon of that on Tues. afternoon. I have...

    Success Pond Rd. in Winter?

On the Ketchum side how far in does the road get plowed, all the way to Wright Trail trailhead parking area?

    Success Pond Rd. in Winter?

I've decided to restate an earlier question using a new heading. The WMG says that S.P.R. is "not generally open to public vehicular use in winter." Can anybody tell me what that means? Is it gated or how does one know it's not open? If it's not "generally" open are there exceptions? I'd...

So What's The Coldest You Ever Been Out In?

For me it was at Lake Colden in the winter of '76. Our recording thermometer maxed out at minus 35 deg. so we don't know how cold it actually got but Old Forge had -40 the same night. It was interesting for some of us in lighter sleeping bags. bcskier

    RFI Mahoosucs in Feb.

I had a sense that that was the case. I'm glad to get some opinions about it. I'm proposing to my comrades that we try and do it in one long day. Perhaps it's possible, perhaps not. It won't be the first winter objective we will have retreated from if it comes to that. Anyone have any ideas...

    RFI Mahoosucs in Feb.

I'm planning to visit the Mahoosucs and try a Goose Eye to Fulling Mill trip with a couple of friends. Just wondering what to expect in the way of trailbreaking, etc. Will the Success Pond Rd. be plowed out past both trailheads (Goose Eye & Notch Tr.)? I figure we'll spot a car at the end of...

More Efficient to Hike or X-C Ski?

Faster going uphill too I was surprised to find on two separate occasions when climbing the Tuckerman Ravine trail with different friends, one packing a teleboard and walking and the other alpine skis and walking, that neither was able to easily keep up with me using climbing skins & skis. I...
