Spruce & Savage, but no Teapot

Every year I'm shocked, SHOCKED! to learn that it starts to get colder and it snows around late October. So invariably I always have one or two hikes where my hydration hose freezes and I go home wet and cold. Oh well, at least we got a couple.

    Routes to Vermont Mountains

Try South America Pond Road as an approach for the Senecas. I was there last weekend. There is a road that goes into the bowl east of the three peaks. They are mostly open all the way around except for two scrubby cols, and the east peak is a little thick on top. Didn't find the jar on south...

    More Beaudry Bushwhacks

The cab does not have a floor, but you can climb to the top. It seemed to be in pretty good shape. Phil S

    More Beaudry Bushwhacks

Very fun weekend, I have to say that the 5/6/Crispo whack will go down as one of my favorites. There was some scrambling, views, route choices (other than going where the compass points), and mysteries (the aforementioned fiberglass insulation, old cables and insulators in the middle of...

    Nash Stream Hikes, 10/10

Mark, You forgot professor Pig Pen's other thing to remember: "I had to find the passage back to the place I was before" (Eagles, Hotel California) You would have been fine if you did that.

    Whackfest Tree (Greenville) (Part One)

Sept 2, 2006: Deer Mountain, GAS Mhrsebego and I met at the west end of the Lincoln Pond Road on Saturday morning for the prequel to Whackfest Tree. First we complied with the requirement that all bushwacks start with one or more people looking at a map on the hood of a car. After that we headed...

This land is my land...this land is your land...

Here's a deal for you: Please come to Vermont and hike and spend money, I in turn will come to your state and hike and spend money (If it has some 3000 footers).

    Attendance plummets at Baxter...

Oh, I forgot something. I forgot to mention the BSP authority's strict policy against hiking safely in the winter. We all know that the most important thing to consider in planning a winter hike is the weather. However Baxter has a different approach. You pick your date two weeks or more in...

    Attendance plummets at Baxter...

And another thing! Hiking Baxter Peak in winter must be more dangerous than climbing Everest or K2. You can get a permit to climb everest or K2 solo, but not to hike Baxter peak solo in winter.

    Grass Mountain

Hi Nate, I dug up some notes from May 2002 on Grass and Spruce. As I recall this one was easy-breezy. (like most of Southern Vermont) Rt 313 to 7A to Old West Road to Farm Road to Grass Mtn Rd. After about 1/4 mile Grass Mtn Road makes a hard left at a clearing. Parked here. Followed a...
