    Tecumseh view clearing

The precedent, which you skirt past, is of hacking up the forest on viewless summits in order to open up a view. Do you support that? There are nice views pretty close to Tecumseh's summit, as I and I believe others have noted. Why the need for one right at the top? But circling back - do you...

    Tecumseh view clearing

The discussion is ongoing, and I agree people have mostly made themselves understood, but there might yet be more to be said. I very much don't like the precedent set at Tecumseh. I'd hate to see "view bandits," be they well-intentioned trail maintainers or plain renegades, chopping up the...

We disagree, yet I don't feel the need to put your expression of your perspective to bed. I'll thank you to return the courtesy.

Overnight BackPack in CT - Or a close drive...

Mike's right. There's another camping area between Brassie Brook and Riga - Ball Brook is the name, if memory serves me correctly. Also a couple spots about two miles NOBO from Everett's summit, Hemlock is one, I forget the name of the other, which is right next to it. One other note: a side...

Why wouldn't they be? Maybe not outraged, but opposed, unless there is some strong utilitarian argument for these projects.

    Tecumseh view clearing

You're entitled to your perspective, and to respect in expressing it. Let's hope others can be forgiven for preferring healthy, air filtering, soil nourishing, ground stabilizing trees to a view which can be exceeded, for the most part, from the vast swaths of cleared forest on the ski slopes...

Overnight BackPack in CT - Or a close drive...

Nearby the Northwest Camp, which is 3/4 mile west of the A.T. at the north base of Bear Mountain's summit cone on the unblazed but very clear Northwest Road trail, is Sages Ravine campsite in a beautiful spot, deep, dark wooded hollow, right on the A.T. Lots of tent pads there. In Salisbury...

We need all the trees we can get and should be planting more wherever we can, not chopping them down.

    Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal?

I don't know, but if I had to guess, the idea is to make it more difficult to reinstitute logging in the wilderness areas of the Whites. Hikers and skiers are a secondary consideration.

Hawthorne Falls - the perennial questions -? How/where - have they disappeared????

I saw several 3061's and a 3030-ish or two. Maybe one refers to the top and the other to the base.

Hmm. Strange. I don't have the problem on any other website. Go figure.

Hawthorne Falls - the perennial questions -? How/where - have they disappeared????

Hi Chris, thanks for the link - think I remember reading that report back when you first posted it. One thing: I've been having trouble viewing your site. I get an ad which pops up and says it will redirect to your site after 45 seconds, but it doesn't. Frustrating! Glad you've got sponsorship...

Hawthorne Falls - the perennial questions -? How/where - have they disappeared????

You probably already did this research, Becca, but a Google search of "Hawthorne Falls New Hampshire elevation" just now gave me several quotes in the 3030'-3070' range. Looks like it might be in that flattish part where you veered east from the brook due to the blowdowns. Those references also...

LOST HIKER IN Spaulding mountain area maine.

Looks like, based on where she was found, that she may have been attempting to take a low route toward the A.T. road crossing in the col between Sugarloaf and Crocker. She reportedly was to meet her husband further up the trail at a road crossing near Stratton. if this was the case, it could...

    Family of Four fined

That 1.4 mile stretch up the Crawford Path is much easier than the 2.4 miles or so down Ammo to the Cog, moreso at night. Only in hard winter conditions would down from there make more sense than up, it would seem.

And from the report I read, they're happy to pay. Under the circumstances, better than the alternative.
