New AMC Hut in Crawford Notch???

I would like to see this hut charge significantly less than the others. This one is proposed to be very near the road and in much more hospitable climes than its counterparts. Just as Lakes and Madison, justifiably due to their rugged and remote locations, charge somewhat more than the other...

    Flume Gorge

What do you guys think of Lost River? I visited it in June and was underwhelmed - it was nice but not awe-inspiring. I get the idea that Flume Gorge is more photogenic.

    New AT record

I agree he is an inspiration and that this was a herculean effort. The only thing I'd say as to "what if" notions about his health is that the AT inflicts a pounding on the frame, especially the northern reaches of the trail. Anyone getting deep into an FKT attempt of it is both overworking and...

Blueberries are getting ripe in SW NH!!

Thanks for the beta, everyone. I'm heading up soon and plan to interperse big hikes and smaller hikes, so berry hunting will be in order on some of these. One of my favorite hike memories is of my second climb of Connecticut's Bear Mountain, July 17, 2010. My best hiking buddy and I were...

    Mittersill Mtn. Trail?

Second that - lost of beautiful views, near continuous from Mittersill Peak to C summit. It's pretty steep much of the way, as well. Glad I got it last year before its prolonged closure.

    Lauky's last hike

Oh, Ed. I never met Lauky and haven't yet met you, but thanks to you both I enjoyed many adventures my own feet haven't yet traveled. Your posts were among my favorites which welcomed me in their charm and fun when I first came to Views three years ago. I'm so sorry to hear of Lauky's taking his...

    Mittersill Mtn. Trail?

I hiked it and reported on it June 1 last year. Not sure whether it's open now or not - trail was not well marked at the beginning for me, started at northwest base of lift up Mittersill Peak, with parking right nearby. There was a beaten footpath, and after a while, on the climb, maybe 1/4 mile...

Best peak to end 4000 footer list in NH?

I have a friend in CT who has done all but Moosilauke, which was my first. I'd enjoy, when I get to number 48, doing that one with him and others and then going to do Moose with him for his finish and my continuation. It'll be at least my third, as I've already hit the big M again.

Best peak to end 4000 footer list in NH?

I started with Moosilauke on 5/5/12, the day of the Supermoon, which was clearing Blue Ridge as I got to my car and accompanied me all the way home through Vermont. What a special, beautiful day and night.

    Lost Hikers on Davis Path

I wended my way up to New Hampshire, over from Lincoln to Crawford Notch, up and down Mt. Tom, back to Lincoln, then back around Moosilauke the long way to VT, thence home, without once being lost. It can be done! :)

    Dog on Caps Ridge

You might considering going up Caps, Sierra, and coming down Jewell. Some ppl use those dog booties to protect their paws - I don't have a dog, but others might chime in on that.

Agreed with Mike, Damselfly and others - very well written, left me wanting more. Thanks again, Dennis.

Best peak to end 4000 footer list in NH?

I've thought of Carrigain and Moriah. Now that I think about it, though, I might just save East Osceola for last, which will make it easy to celebrate in Lincoln, which I've come to love. I tried to get it with O last August, but only had legs and time enough for the one. Grabbing the two of...

    05/23/2014 - Mt. Hancock’s Crystal Ravine

I third the motion on the full NW to SE Hancock traverse. Looking at topos the other day in response to the Captain whack thread, the thought occurred to me, and I wrote a post about it. The press of the most hectic work week of the year called me away from it, so I never hit the button to post...

Abe Needs a Drink - Lincole Gap to Summit, May 17, 2015

Thanks, Mike. The hike and the mountain reminded me a lot of Camel's Hump, with a smaller alpine summit area. For the Hump, I got a fogged in summit in Sept 2013. Fortunately Abe afforded some nice views.

Abe Needs a Drink - Lincole Gap to Summit, May 17, 2015

In the midst of the main steep pitches buttressing the summit cone. Beautiful, tough and fun. Rounding the bend toward the final pitch to the summit, my eye was captured by this large jet going straight up. I took it as a hopeful cue. Coming Up on the Big Quartz Boulder in the Final Climb...

Abe Needs a Drink - Lincole Gap to Summit, May 17, 2015

Wanted to get out and visit a 4000-footer this weekend, and had to decide which one. After considering multiple variables, and upon learning that Mt. Abraham is in the Green Mountain National Forest, so that the trail is open through mud season, I gave this peak some thought. Calibrating from...
