    "The Bulkhead"

Yesterday my husband and I hiked up the Sunapee/Kearsarge/Ragged Trail from Proctor Academy to West Top and Balanced Rock, which is a spur trail .1 from the main trail. It comes to a cliff area that has a sign which says "The Bulkhead." It goes over the ledges (precariously in some places) with...

Time Coming To An End For My 13 Year Old Great Pyrenees

Condolences on this difficult journey, I agree get a phone consult and see if the vet will come to the house. Up here there are "mobile" vet services that will do just that. Best of luck.

Where would you buy (Location, location, location...) ??

.Stinson lake, forest lake near Littleton were both suggested and I would 2nd those, Kezar lake, Ossipee lake but that is large. My sister lives in Easton near kinsman trailhead with a view out her window of kinsman and lots of good road biking and cannon is nearby, but not on a lake...

    Speed trap

I've had numerous run ins with police over the years, with one strange stop in Thornton on 93 by a young State trooper. I suspect someone called in saying I was swerving or something, he pulled 3 of us over, let the one in front of me go and the one behind me go, made me get out of my truck and...

    Speed trap

Interesting- I have not run into the speed traps mentioned on Rte 3, if anything I always wonder where they are since its easy to go 65. Rte 2 from castleview TH to gorham hill is 65 territory, but have seen statey periodically. I mostly run into them on 93 between exit 24 & 26, like 3-5 of them...

    Sad Balsams update

Sounds a bit fishy, with nobody wanting to even comment and very sad. My sister used to work there chambermaiding as a teen. We used to visit her periodically since she lived up there for the summer. She skied there every winter through her teen years. I remember her sitting on the couch, skis...

New Wind Farm in Berlin - Under the radar

I saw that in the paper today, guess I'd better hustle to hike it before it is off limits. Looks like there is one behind it going in as well? Sounding a bit like what we are dealing with down here in the Bristol area.

    North Country Economic Update

I've noticed on my monthly jaunts up there that more housing has sold, as well as trying to demolish old bldgs not just for Rte 110 access but also to raise rents and get rid of some of the rif raff that resulted in increased crime. It seems split to me now between an emerging new Berlin and an...

Jericho Mountain ATV park Festival this weekend and ATV ons many roads from now on

Gee, I am glad I read this, I was thinking of dragging husband up there to hike Mt. Jericho on Saturday! We'd be right in the line of fire walking up that trail. It's busy enough as it is on a regular weekend, this means it will be a mob scene. THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP PB!!

Mt. Calloway on Grand Father Mt. North Carolina

That looks like a neat hike and sounds like they are meticulous about there trails down there! Glad it wasn't a hot day. I would assume that any day down there hiking is either hot and humid or just humid. I'm thinking I would't like hiking in summer down there, given how much warmer it is...

    Worst bug encounters ever

I was up hiking little cherry pond in jefferson on sunday and biked to the trailhead, so that was fine since I was moving fast, but the hike to the pond was horrendous and I was surprised that the deer flies are out already. I was chewed alive by mosquitos and deer flies and wanted to give up...

    Let talks about statins

I was dx with high cholesterol in my 30's and was put on zocor. Slowly over time the doseage went up. I heard about the increased risk of getting diabetes and switched over to fish oil, and stopped going to the doctor. Unfortunately I ended up with my mother's bad genes instead of my 91 year old...
