I love how the picture in the Daily Mail shows Franconia Ridge on a clear summer day! Kinda defeats the point of the article....I mean if a point was to make sure that hikers are prepared for bad weather. Yikes on losing his mittens!!! I wonder how those blew away. That would have freaked me...

Hi can anyone comment on the snow coverage on the Lincoln Woods XC ski trails on both sides of the Pemi? This is relatively "southern" in the Whites region--so I am curious whether Lincoln area also got a dumping....?

Did NH get enough rain yesterday (9/19) to make the river crossings difficult heading up to North Twin? I was in Crawford Notch last weekend and it was all so dry dry dry that streams were nothing. Any 411 on the North Twin area, post-rain would be helpful. Thank you! --Carla

Just read another article in the Globe today that said her family didn't like the way she was portrayed in the NYT article as "prone to anxiety"....so who knows what led to the disorientation...I guess we will learn more if her family shares some of the journal entries. Anyway....

I bet many of us have been in the same situation (I know I have) where you just get disoriented really quickly off the trail. I've had my little moments of panic, but luckily calmed myself down and steered myself back to the trail. The NYT article mentioned that she had anxiety attacks...who...

Just reporting back-- I skiied at Great Glen trails yesterday, across from Wildcat. There was definitely enough snow to cover the trails--and the grooming team there did a good job on opening things up. Snow was slick, hard, icing over, but certainly good to get out and shake out some muscles...
