Is there Cell service near ... ?

Can someone explain the difference between antennas and cell towers? I checked a place in the north country that has no towers, yet has four antenna sites. There's no cell service there at all. So what are the antennas used for?

    Success Pond Rd. 2011

Yeah, even during the best of times you have to drive that road like a skier on a slalom course.

    Biggest Nature Surprise

Hey man, that's MY SISTER!!!!! just kidding. Anyway, Tom, next time you're out in Vegas, check out Valley Of Fire, about an hour north of the city. Different than Red Rock, much less crowded but just as beautiful...

    North Country Economic Update

I'm one of those interested people that Peakbagger was talking about... So this is all good news, thanks for posting. I think you posted something else about the Dillon operation. I have no idea what that is. Can you give me some details about it?

    Lynx tracks in NH confirmed

Yes, very cool. NH F&G acknowledges breeding pairs of lynx in northern Maine but never in NH, so this is new stuff. Maybe due to all the clear cutting going on up there? I'd love to know where in Pittsburg those prints were found.

    Hip replacement

I had hip replacement done in January 2010. I had it done in Concord, NH. The procedure was "anterior" total hip replacement on the left side. I was hobbling around on crutches the day after the surgury, driving my truck (automatic trans) 2 weeks after the surgury, and back to work (at a desk)...

FYI: Northern Pass High Voltage Transmission Project

Thanks for posting this Tim. This is an interesting listen for people with a serious interest in this. It's a panel debate with both sides well represented. Listening to it, I was wondering why the suit from the electric company kept referring to it as "renewable energy" when the state of NH...

Big land sale in Maine - 900,000 acres

Peakbagger, you may know more about this than I do but Millsfield is one area in NH that has no property taxes for it's residences. The reason is that the majority landowner's (the timber company) tax contribution takes care of all of the towns financial needs. I wonder if this transfer of...

FYI: Northern Pass High Voltage Transmission Project

Well, I'm not ranking on CT or MA or anyplace, apology accepted. It's just my opinion that NH doesn't need any more power. Our population is shrinking (just like most of New England and the northeast), and I don't see any new business' being built either. I'm just wary when a salesperson comes...

What does VFTT mean to you?

More than anything else, reading VFTT takes me up to the mountains when I'm stuck behind my desk.

FYI: Northern Pass High Voltage Transmission Project

NH doesn't need any more power. The lights always go on, so does the TV. And if you had more juice to sell, you wouldn't charge any less for it and don't insult me by asking me to believe that you would. If MA and CT needs more power, then I'm sorry to hear that but you can't expect us to help...

Maine Public & Preserved Lands Map

The Maine Public Reserve Lands are a treasure. I camped at the Machias MPRL last summer and stayed at a campsite just a few feet from the Machias River. I was the only one there. No fees, no reservations, no garbage on the ground (it was the bizarro Tripoli Rd.) the network of forest roads run...

more New England mountain lion rumors

This was from John Harrigan's weekly article; Every several years I ask readers to send in accounts of strange finds. I'd mentioned deer carcasses found lodged in high forks or trees. The last time I mentioned this, a reader sent me a photo of a deer skeleton lodged high in a tree in the...
