    Hit the gas?

Being Massachusetts born and bred, I'd just lean on the horn and throw the damn deer the finger. That'll teach 'im. Seriously, I'd like to hear the insurance companys reasoning for speeding up. I can't figure that one...

    Gorham Paper Mill may reopen

The majority investor in this land is M&M Consulting & Contracting, Inc, a cozy little company from Jersey City, NJ, who have made their millions as demolition contractors. I'd be willing to make a small wager that Tony Soprano had at least a small equity position in this firm. I don't think...

    Nature Happens

Reminds me of the photos of the bear chasing the moose across the Pemi last winter, which were taken from the footbridge at Lincoln Woods. Not quite as dramatic, but in the same ballpark.

    Total Knee Replacement Question

I hear nothing but good things about knee replacement, despite it's complexity. I had my left hip replaced at Concord (NH) Hospital last winter and I came thru w/flying colors. I met people who had knee replacement when I went thru P.T. and they were all upbeat and optimistic. You'll do fine...

    LL Bean

I have a very short list of stores/companies that I spend money at without worrying if I'm getting screwed. LL Bean is very high on that list of companies. You cannot go wrong there.

Thanks for the heads-up for this film! I've been waiting for it's release.

Best Whole State New Hampshire Atlas?

This is true in the north country too. Delorme's map of Pittsburg is woefully out of date. Roads are misnamed, misrouted, etc. The NH map hasn't been updated in awhile (and there are no near-term plans to update it, either). The Maine map is excellent however, having been updated last year. You...

Demonstration of grizzlies devouring a messy camp

    EMS Club Day 10/2-10/3

As Spencer said in an earlier post, 20% off doesn't do it for me these days. The best place I've seen for savings on gear is The North Face outlet in Freeport. I was there last week, picked up an awesome 200 wt fleece at 50% off. Azzamattafact, the entire 2nd floor was 40-50% off and it wasn't...

    Interesting Coyote Article in NYTs

Thanks for posting the article Tom. We've got an active coyote population around here and they're especially noisy in the fall and the spring. We hear them almost every night this time of year.

    Favorite 4000-footers for snowshoeing

Pierce is a great snowshow. You're protected from the wind all the way till you come out on the ridge. If the weather is good you can climb the last few hundred feet to the summit and if the weather is no good, at least you get the reward of a great view from the ridge.

    NH earthquake last Saturday night

Did anyone feel the quake in Southern NH last night? I didnt feel it but I sure as hell heard it!! A 3.1, centered in Boscowen (borders Concord, Exit 17ish). Happened around 11:30, it sounded like a thunderclap happened just outside my window.

    Foliage Thread

It does seem early this year, doesn't it? I'm typing this out on my deck and looking at the yellows of the ashes and the reds of the maples. And when the wind kicks up, a rush of leaves drift softly towards the grass. Except for the raking, I love this time of year!

Another sad story from the Whites

I'm with Ellen on this one. Dying on a trail alone, in the middle of nowhere with no other human in sight isn't how I'd want to go. All respects and sympathies towards the deceased.

Tonight; Sept 22; Get your cameras out

Today at dusk, "as the sun sinks in the west, bringing the season to a close, the full Harvest Moon will rise in the east, heralding the start of fall. The two sources of light will mix together to create a kind of 360-degree, summer-autumn twilight glow that is only seen on rare occasions."...
