Good eye, TC. My post about NH Fish & Game's podcast called "Radio Diner" got deleted, for whatever reason. I guess Fish & Game is off topic here. bob

    Joshua Tree National Park?

What Marty said. I was there a couple of weeks after he was and I got most of my info from him. Hi Marty! I'd recommend that if you approach the park from the north and come into Twenty-Nine Palms, drive by the marine base there. The displays done up for the soldiers oversees are quite...

    Hiker Rescued from Mt Moosilauke

Confusing article. I was wondering about this because the article states that she was "stuck ON (emphasis is mine) Mt Mooselauke" which meant to me that she was stuck on the summit. But of course there's no TH 1.5 miles from the summit. An interesting part of the story is that she was able to...

Your favorite video clips of 2009...

Epic! It's kind of like Avatar, but without the $250,000,000 budget.

Your favorite video clips of 2009...

Wow, a very unBirdHead-like film!! Very mellow. Did you get married or something??! I'd encourage everyone who hasn't seen Head's videos of the Whites to check them out here... http://www.birdheadstudios.com/funsite/video/ne115summitvideos.htm My personal faves are the ones for Hancock, N...

    Appalachia

Agreed on both counts! Ever since reading the books about Waterman, I've been very interested in his life. Without realizing it, I'm quite sure I saw him on Franconia ridge in the late 80s (unless there was more than one person up there who wore a kilt and a tam) and often find myself thinking...

Potential New Year's blizzard to blanket New England mountains

I hope none of you were coming home from the mts today. On 93 south around 4:30pm today (just over an hour ago), we counted 13 vehicles spun out or wrecked in 5 different incidents between mile markers 66-63. The last one involved injuries. Also, in that same stretch there were at least 3...

Potential New Year's blizzard to blanket New England mountains

Thanks for the well wishes and positive vibes, guys. I'm sure I'll be back on my feet before long. Bob

    Tilton gas prices

Uh uh. I meant the ones on the other exit (Exit 25?). Two gas stations right across from the PSU campus. Those stations are cheaper than the one across from Hanafords. Plus, the gas on Exit 26 is at least 2 miles off the highway. (This is obviously an example of me having too much knowledge...

Potential New Year's blizzard to blanket New England mountains

They might have been blown off - the winds were that strong! It was a slow drive up north yesterday but worth the effort. All of the traffic on the Kanc pulled into Loon (which looked packed) and left the rest of the road almost vacant. There was one car parked at the Pine Brook TH, another at...

    Tilton gas prices

...and usually, but not lately, the prices in Plymouth beat Tilton by a few cents, although this month it's been trending higher for whatever reason. The two gas stations in Plymouth are right off the highway (the more southerly of the two Plymouth exits - sorry, I cant recall the exit number)...

    AMC Executive Director pay

Ed, The author claims Mass Audubon does not run a tight ship. FWIW, that's just his opinion. I dont know the first thing about Mass Audubon. bob

Gym aka Health Club Membership Costs

I think the best deal is Planet Fitness which you can join for $10/month, no contracts, and a one time fee of $20. All the cardio and weights you'd ever need are there, but no extras like yoga or spinning classes (although they have the spinning stationarys) or babysitting.

    York Pond Road Status?

I havent been up there this winter yet, but it's always well plowed. Bog Dam Rd, however, is gated all winter.

    AMC Executive Director pay

These comments remind me of a book I recently read, Two Coots In A Canoe. It's the story of two old college buddies who decide to paddle down the Connecticut River. One of them (the author, David Morine) spent much of his professional life involved with the local conservation efforts, most...

    AMC Executive Director pay

I agree with most of Tut's post (especially the part about the Sox). But the reason why Andy Fallender get $300K to run the AMC is because his business skills and contacts and efforts bring in much more than that. How do I know that is true? Because if it weren't true, he'd get canned (or he'd...

    Snow on the Kanc

Anyone can do it, not just NH residents. We've been doing it for years. I get my permits at the ranger station on the east end of the Kanc or the one in Gorham on Rt 16. I've found a nice little deer yard, about a 100 yards off of the road that's been providing us with balsams for 4 years. Tips...

Why do you (or don't you) hile solo?

A very unusual work schedule at my last job (Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat) forced me to leave all of my Mon-Fri friends behind and introduced me to the joys of solo hiking. I still miss the crude humor, lies, sports talk, insults, and post-hike beers I'd share with my gastro-intestinally challenged...
